We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Strunkey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
The idea of Queen of Graphics began my sophomore year of college. As a Graphic Design major, it had always been a thought to start my own freelance business but for a while I was hesitant not knowing where to start. At the time I was pretty overwhelmed being a full-time student, working 2 jobs, and being active in clubs and sports on campus. With advice from family and friends I started looking at the pros and cons. Financially it made sense to seek another stream of income to pay for college and living on my own, making money doing what I love.
While interning as a Graphic Designer for the FAU Men’s Basketball team I discovered my potential and realized how it would benefit me and my growth as a Graphic Designer by building my portfolio and gaining experience on my own. It took months for me to build my brand from scratch; developing my logo, brand guidelines, services I wanted to offer, and my overall design process. I wasn’t fully confident in taking the first step in announcing my Graphic Design business but I did and I don’t regret it at all. Initially it started as creating graphics for friends and family and my work began to speak for itself as entrepreneurs and organizations started reaching out in need of my services.

Erin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a Graphic Designer. I started my freelance experience while attending Florida Atlantic University and later graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. My design company assists businesses, corporations, entrepreneurs, and organizations in the creative ideation and development of their brand identity and brand marketing. I take pride in continuously bringing my clients ideas to life and providing unique graphics to allow them to stand out.
As a Brand Designer I wear many hats as Graphic Design has a wide range. I specialize in social media management, brand marketing, digital advertising, email marketing, and public relations. My professional experience working in these fields has aided me in the development of my skills in business and my personal growth as a creative. In both my 9 to 5 career and managing Queen of Graphics, I produce high-quality custom logos, create marketing collateral, social media content, web design, and print material to advertise and promote numerous businesses.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
With the uprising of technology there are continuously new resources for an entrepreneur to take advantage of, and a lot of them are FREE! From YouTube videos, self-paced courses, conferences, to certifications there is always room for personal growth and more knowledge. Being a Graphic Designer in the creative field, software programs are constantly updating and more techniques and concepts are becoming widely available which allows for expansion in my design craft.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Providing both high-quality graphics and interpersonal customer service consistently are the two biggest qualities that have supported the reputation behind Queen of Graphics.
From word of mouth both local and international, my graphics speak for themselves. My designs can be seen many places from digital to print and the positive reviews and traction grows clientele and my overall reputation.
Customer service and professionalism is also a major factor as I like to give my clients an inclusive experience when working 1-on-1 with me. Being attentive and knowledgeable in what I do allows clients to feel comfortable and excited to continue working with me, which in return increases client retention.
