We were lucky to catch up with Erin Mitchell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erin, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
We have three boys and from the get-go we wanted to teach them responsibility when it comes to work. Doing this also allows them to see that it can be fun to do something that you enjoy. We hope one or all of them would like to do some “Moovalin” one day but ultimately we just want to teach them the art of working for something you enjoy and not giving up when it gets hard. Learning to stay positive in the hard times is a life lesson we could all be reminded of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We have always said that nobody is ever too upset if they’re having ice cream. People getting ice cream are just happy. And we wanted to be a part of that! We took a classic ice cream truck concept, and converted it into a Florida ready golf cart ice cream cart. We then added party features like face painting and balloon animals and it’s a whole different take on a classic go-to memory.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Ultimately people just need to be around other people. A smile and a good attitude goes so much further than we give it credit for. If you’re positive and energetic, people pick up on it. And people enjoy it. And then they want to catch you next time. It’s not been a quick process. You have to get to know and talk to people, but honestly that’s part of the process, and it’s another one to learn from and just take it in stride and keep up the enthusiasm even when it’s hard. When you’re able to do that, people can see that it’s real.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Owning a business doesn’t mean you have to be a millionaire. And that’s ok. It’s perfectly ok to just have something of your own to take pride in. And put in the work. And get to know your neighbors. And build relationships. In the end, you always have a goal to make money, but you have to be sure when you start, that even if you don’t get rich, you enjoy what you’re doing. Because if you don’t, the hard days will be even harder. But if you enjoy it, you’ll have an easier time staying motivated to find new ways to earn, and not just give up when you need to make a change.
