We recently connected with Erin Jantzen and have shared our conversation below.
Erin, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
For every family holiday or get together, my mom and I go over the top. That’s how it’s always been. My siblings joke that our homes look slightly different with each visit, whether that’s an updated furniture arrangement or a newly sourced antique with a wild story behind it. Oh, this old hutch? I was driving and found it on the side of the road! You like that dresser? Thanks, I just restored it. A man delivered it strapped to the top of his Honda Civic from Facebook Marketplace for $50.
When it came time to select a venue for my brother’s wedding shower, the obvious choice was for my mother and I to host it. In preparation, we sourced eclectic decor and vintage furniture all summer long. We filled our yard with all the treasures we collected – a teal mid-century modern sectional, numerous Victorian couches, brass coffee tables, rugs, large scale yard games, tiered serving platters, you name it. Despite all the heavy lifting and hours of work, we had so much fun. After the shower and the overwhelming positive feedback that followed, we realized we had unlocked a newfound passion, event design.
The very next day, you cannot make this up, a woman had posted a ton of vintage furnishings on Facebook Marketplace. We quickly inquired about purchasing her entire collection. Turns out, she was looking to get out of the event rental and design business to go back to teaching. Within a week, we finalized arrangements for us to purchase her established company, Collective Charm Vintage Rentals.
Exactly what we were looking for, fell right into our laps, literally overnight. Sometimes, what’s meant for you comes so comically fast or easy, there’s no second guessing it. If there is something in your life that you are working so hard for that is not coming to fruition, consider it may be a sign from the universe that this is not meant for you. Yes grit and hardwork are huge, but usually what’s meant for you comes with great ease. Who knows, maybe that business you’re dreaming of opening on Sunday will fall into your arms by Monday morning.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
the reader will get to know about you and your brand/organization/etc
We’re your Furniture Girls, a mother-daughter event and interior design duo, based out of Cincinnati. We have two businesses: Collective Charm (event design) and Intertwine Design (interior design).
Collective Charm specializes in creating non-traditional events that highlight guest experience using our unique inventory of rentals and styling services. Yes, banquet halls can be leveled up. But, have you ever been to a completely unexpected, over-the-top personal, backyard wedding? The sky’s the limit with our full design events. Want a custom display? We’ve got you. Don’t see something in our inventory that you really want to see at your wedding? Great thing we have 12 months to source it for you on our dime! On one’s big day, the last thing they, their friends and family need to worry about is where Jennifer wanted those 12 candle sticks and 16 bud vases to go. Let us do the heavy lifting and executing!
It doesn’t just stop there, Intertwine Design specializes in home staging, interior design, remodels, furnishing of short and mid-term rentals, and property management. We’re your one stop shop for all your design and furnishing needs. Oh no, you found your dream home without a plan for selling your current home? No worries, our team will stage your home to get you an offer by the end of the week! Is your contractor suggesting you go with the over-done gray and black for your remodel? Let us help with your selections (paint, lighting, flooring, and furnishings) to ensure they stand the test of time.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Collective Charm has mastered event group dynamics and how to ensure your guests have an unforgettable time. Of course your guests will enjoy your well thought out sit down dinner and tablescapes. However, let me challenge you to think beyond your sit down dinner. Don’t make the mistake of accidentally marrying your guests to their dinner seat because I promise you, some people want every excuse possible to stay in that seat till the end of the night. Offer an experienced based activity to get your guests out of their seats, mingling, and one step closer to the dance floor. Consider a fire-side lounge where your guests can make smores and spark up cigars. Imagine a mirrored welcome sign where your girlfriends can sneak off to get a selfie without bugging their partners partaking in yard games. Have your guests send you off with a treat from your favorite food truck in hand. Think outside the box and find a way to incorporate the people and things that mean the most to you.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
As the Furniture Girls, we just have a passion for creating beautiful spaces whether that’s planning one evening that perfectly encapsulates the love you share with your partner, or that’s customizing the spaces you’ll watch your children grow up in. Our week varies drastically! One day we’re ankles deep in debris over-seeing a rehab of a historical home and the next we’re delivering a trailer full of upscale furniture for a wedding at one of Cincinnati’s most prestigious venues.
The commonality being that we believe that every space should tell a story—your story. We take the time to truly understand our clients, their passions, and the people and things they love most. By weaving these personal elements into our designs, we create spaces that are not only beautiful but deeply authentic and meaningful. Our mission is to craft interiors and events that feel like home in the truest sense—where every detail reflects the heart and soul of our clients.
