We recently connected with Erin Holland and have shared our conversation below.
Erin , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
As a mama of two I have to say that my daughters are my most meaningful project. Which of course is the truth! However, my current project not only is meaningful to me as an entrepreneur but also to all of the mamas out there trying to redefine what health and joy looks like on their motherhood journey.
Let me take you back a few years though, back when a seed was planted. At the end of 2019 when I launched my podcast, PG-ish: a parental guidance-ish podcast to produce a life worthy of emulation, I not only didn’t know what what was coming with the pandemic, I also didn’t know how this budding hobby of mine would help me to evolve as an adult and a mom.
Since then, this seed has been germinating – ever so slowing. Over the last couple of years I’ve been waking up to the idea that it was time to use my voice even more. As an introvert, taking the next step to transform this idea and mold it into something valuable, required taking a chance, being brave, and saying yes to the possibility of something amazing happening.
Now, nearly three and half years later, I embark on the next stage of my entrepreneurial journey – an online course where I pour out my heart and soul from what I’ve learned as I’ve processed and transcended (most days!) burn out, fatigue, grief, and frustration to find peace and joy as a working, single mama.
While this endeavor has challenged me in every way possible, it has been a way to chip away at obstacles that have previously held me back, and to calm the lying voices in my head that tell me I’m failing at this whole mom thing. Those pesky voices not only limit my daily outlook but the legacy I’m trying to leave.
What I’ve learned is that I can’t give that which I don’t have. As a mom, I want to not only provide and love my children well, but also show them what’s possible when you put your mind to something. It takes action. It takes discipline.
It starts with me!
My course, Weary to Revived, is not only about the journey I’ve walked through to find freedom, but a way to empower burnt out moms, while also touching the next generation.
Yes, it’s been scary to put myself out there but it’s also very exciting. I can’t wait to grow this community of moms who are creating peace in the midst of the chaos that they call motherhood.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m not only the CEO and Founder of PG-ish Parenting, I’m a corporate Marketing Manager by day, a podcast host by night, and single mom to two young daughters 24/7.
After my divorce nearly 7 years ago, I found myself moving two states away from where I had set up a life, and back to work after taking a few years off to be a stay-at home mom. I was frustrated with a long commute to and from work, and had an empty soul from working too much and not seeing the fruit of my labor, or my kids. I created PG-ish to hold myself accountable – to learn how to find joy and balance as an adult and a mom.
In short, PG-ish Parenting is personal development for parents.
PG-ish is first and foremost a podcast that empowers moms, okay all parents, to assess their values and priorities, and encourages them with quick weekly tips, discussions, and scenarios to evolve their parenting experience from overwhelm and frustration to growth and success.
If you’re like most moms I know, I know you’ve carried more than your fair share of uncertainty during the last several years and are beyond burnt out from the invisible load of motherhood. You’re likely teetering on the edge, with just enough time to live and barely breath.
And no pressure, those kiddos are just always watching and learning from you!
My goal with the PG-ish podcast and the course, Weary to Revived, is to provide parental guidance-ish to change the narrative, to reclaim time for mamas, and to ultimately produce a life worthy of emulation!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic and genuine. I don’t avoid the hard topics nor sugar coat anything.
Having gone through an ugly divorce, moving states and leaving a life behind that included being a stay at home mom, there came a point where I needed to rebuild my life. It wasn’t easy but I made it through it. Empowering others to create a life of integrity, and a life they love, is one of my goals. Life isn’t rainbows and unicorns but sharing our stories and making intentional choices in alignment with our values can be life changing. I want to break down any walls that prevent anyone from getting to this place in their lives. I believe pivoting is part of the natural evolution of life and being willing to share the ups and downs of life brings humanity back into a world that is driven by social media highlight reels.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My daughters drive my creative journey.
When I found myself as a single mom, I knew I’d have to up my game. Sure, I was trying to do my best prior to divorce, but when I didn’t have another adult in the house to rely on, to bounce ideas off of, to navigate life with, I knew I’d have to do some growing up also.
Adulthood naturally has an evolutionary process. Since I have two little girls looking up to me not only as their mom but as one of their main mentors, I knew I needed to work on myself sooner rather than later. There’s never an end to this process of evolving, yet I knew it started with me. I can’t teach or give what I don’t have. My motto at PG-ish is to be worthy of emulation. I’m never going to be perfect but my kiddos will mirror what they see in me – for good or bad – so I want to give them the best of me. When those days come that I’m not my best or think I fail them, they are my biggest cheerleaders! They are my greatest gift!
My personal mission statement is to be kind to myself so that I can be the healthiest version of myself, and positively influence the temperature in my home by loving on my kiddos and providing a safe place to connect, explore, and experience joy.
