We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Fogg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin below.
Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I was planning my wedding, I realized that there weren’t many options for decor, other than the super corporate style. So, I lived on Craigslist (it was totally still a thing back then), looking for other brides who were selling their wedding stuff. After a couple of months of doing this, I heard about a business that had more unique items to rent for your wedding as opposed to buying…by that time, I had purchased almost everything that I needed, but it gave me an idea!
By the time that we were done with all our wedding festivities, I had a shelf full of really cool, unique decor – like an antique typewriter and milk glass vases and vintage china. My husband asked if he could have the garage back…and I asked if my mom and I could start a business together – doing wedding rentals.
We realized that there were very few options for couples who wanted more unique decor for their weddings – and we wanted to be able to help fill that niche.

Erin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
From the very beginning, we’ve been all about community over competition. When we first started, I made an effort to reach out to other wedding professionals in the area to do styled shoots, networking, etc. I had an amazing mentor who helped with a lot of that. One of the biggest ways that we built our reputation in our market was producing bridal shows. We produced 6 bridal shows over the course of 3 years. Through there, we were able to meet so many amazing people, and they saw how we worked and how we related to them and to clients.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been personal referrals from previous clients and other wedding professionals, and SEO. We’re on the first page of Google, which really really helps. But nothing beats word of mouth and personal recommendations.
