We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Fish. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin below.
Erin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
During my college years, an acquaintance of mine asked me to photograph a drag show. Reflecting back, I can recall the emotions I felt while documenting the event. I was absolutely thrilled to be present, immersed in my element, capturing images of the vibrant people. It marked one of the earliest instances when I felt like an “official photographer.” Although it wasn’t a paid assignment, the cherry on top came in the form of a tip, I think ten dollars. That gratuity served as the perfect end to a wonderful and memorable experience.

Erin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is erin fish and I am a photographer residing in Columbus, Ohio. I first picked up a camera in high school art class. Although we didn’t have photography courses, our art teacher offered a few DSLR cameras for weekend rentals. I took full advantage. Ever since, my passion for photography has persisted.
Portraiture is my favorite type of photography. Connection above all else is why I love to take pictures. Connection to each other, connection to oneself, to the moment, to living. It means everything to me that there are people who are willing to step in front of my lens and show me who they are.
I want people to know that I genuinely love taking pictures, and I believe it shows in my work.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is appreciation.
Appreciation for the art form, for my subjects, for the ability to create.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The desire to create.
