We recently connected with Erin Dinnie and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Erin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest life changing risks in my life would have to be starting my own business in March of 2022. I had always had thoughts of venturing out on my own for years but never actually took the steps to fully pursue it. In the beginning of 2022 I began researching steps on how to even go about creating a pediatric physical therapy practice. I knew I wanted to provide in-home therapy services while also attempting to execute intensive therapy sessions for children in the community. While working per-diem locally, I began laying the ground work and doing a lot of research on how to go about making this dream into a reality. I was starting from ground zero. How was I going to make this a reality and also make it sustainable?
During this process I received a lot of encouragement from family and friends. In March of 2022 I had officially created Moving Together Therapy. This was a feat within itself, but now I needed to grow and build in order to be successful in my mission. Since, then the journey has had peaks and valley’s. However, this huge risk has brought me so much joy. I would not change it for anything. I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing families and children. Having the opportunity to provide one- on one -services to those in the community is not work for me at all. I am certainly living my dream. In this short time I have been able to progress my practice to include in-home, and in-office visits, while also including intensive therapy sessions. I know there is so much more to work to do and achieve. I am certainly glad I took a leap of faith with both feet in. I can’t wait to see what else is to come.
Erin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, My name is Dr. Erin Dinnie PT, DPT, COMT, and I have been a physical therapist for 12 years. I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Florida International University in 2010. I have worked in a variety of settings, which include: pediatric outpatient, orthopedic/sports outpatient, early intervention (0 to 3 years of age), and home health therapy services. My main priority is to serve and assist individuals and families with reaching their optimal function and mobility.
Throughout my career, I have taken the opportunity to grow in my skill sets and have been trained in the Therasuit Method exercise program utilizing these treatment interventions in many intensive therapy sessions with pediatric clients. In addition, I have also completed a manual therapy certification from the Ola Grimbsy Institute focusing on hands-on manual techniques in orthopedics. I will be working towards my DMI level C certification in the upcoming months. With this specialization I also provide intensive therapy sessions for children in the community.
After seeing a growing need for one-on-one pediatric physical therapy in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. I opened Moving Together Therapy, PLLC. Moving Together Therapy provides in-home, in-office, and intensive therapy sessions to children from birth to adolescence. The main mission of Moving Together Therapy is to provide skilled physical therapy services to children in need, advocate for each individual, and educate families so that they feel empowered and confident in promoting their child’s independence.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe compassion and understanding is crucial to make a positive impact in this field. In addition, continuing to make relationships with others in the field and community is also vital. Finally, providing high quality care to each individual is essential for success.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
As a business owner there are various ways of growing. However, I have found steadily that focusing on each individual case and doing the very best is so important. As a result, this creates positive word of mouth referrals and steady growth as time goes on.
