We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Delander a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have known from a young age that I was passionate about our interior environments. Throughout my life, schooling, and career, I have learned the impacts that our built environments can have on our health and our psyche. I started my company to bring this awareness to others and help them find support from their interior spaces through the use of design and Feng Shui principles.
Erin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started drawing floor plans and home designs from a very young age, thinking I wanted to be an architect. I took some classes in high school that led me to my Interior Design program at Colorado State University. Here, I learned the value of balance between creativity and practical application by obtaining two Bachelor of Science degrees in Interior Design and Construction management. After I graduated, I went into my industries with the zeal to make a difference. I quickly learned that most corporations in my industry do not share the same passion or understanding of how closely linked our environments are to our well-being. Knowing since college that the eventual goal was to start my own business, I gained the confidence to start my own company with the support of my Feng Shui mentors. My business has steadily grown since taking a leap of faith in myself. Now, I can offer Feng Shui consultation and interior design consultation with the knowledge to back up my expertise. I can offer separate or combined services to best serve my clients’ needs and help them create the best interior environments to support their well-being. My company’s name is called Much Love Interiors because I put love into every project or consultation that I work on for my clients’ so that walk away feeling empowered by their space.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative person is knowing that I can truly help people with their environments through Feng Shui and interior design. I have been told frequently that my consultations feel like therapy sessions (in the best way). There is nothing more rewarding to me than knowing I helped someone live their life better through my design or Feng Shui advice.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I struggle with chronic illness and have my entire life. I had always been an honor student and highly involved. Starting my own company, I had to learn how to be an entrepreneur in a mindful way so I did not make myself sick. This is an ongoing learning process and always will be. Now, I find myself applying my own personal lessons around mindfulness not only to my business but with clients. I want to help others know that it is okay to rest and practice self-care. We cannot be productive without taking care of ourselves first.
