We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erin Clott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Erin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
We specialize in a range of personalized services. One of our most sought after service is hand-painting, which creates a more lived-in, natural look that our clients love. We are dedicated to creating a custom experience for our guests to ensure we achieve their goals. We take customer service seriously and we take time to consult every client to create a custom hair plan that works for their lifestyle.
Erin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been interested in the hair industry since childhood. After years of perfecting my craft in salons, I became focused on business management and customer service as a way to elevate the customer experience in a luxury environment,
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
At the age of 29 years old I had the shock of my life and was diagnosed with breast cancer. While I was pregnant I felt a lump in my breast, the dr thought it was pregnancy related since breast cancer didn’t run in my family. By the time my son was 3 months it didn’t go away so I had a biopsy on the lump and that’s when we discovered I had stage 3 breast cancer. It took me for a world wind, as I had to re-evaluate everything and find a plan to beat cancer and stay health for my son, myself and family. I took a year off work to focus on getting better and spending time with my new born son. The health regiment to beat cancer I went through was chemo, surgery and radiation. Now I have just finished a hormonal preventative treatment after 10 years and still am cancer free to this day. I am very grateful and thankful.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for the salon to get new clients has been instagram and google. We received 1400+ clients last year.
