We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erin Archer and Megan Kehren. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erin Archer and Megan Kehren below.
Erin Archer and Megan Kehren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Music teachers faced a roadblock of challenges when the pandemic hit in March 2020. Despite technical difficulties like frozen screens, feedback issues, and synchronous playing obstacles, many of us pushed through and found ways to adapt. We knew that the music education community shared our frustrations, and we needed something better than what the mainstream video conferencing platforms could offer. We banded together to create something new by collaborating with local developers and entrepreneurs to launch TeachWithMuze.com, a cutting-edge music teaching platform.
As music teachers and sisters, we find joy in supporting fellow educators and their students. With Muze, we can provide a reliable online teaching platform, that captures the essence of in-person learning, allowing for an experience that is as close to being face-to-face as possible. Thanks to our ongoing efforts, teachers from around the globe can experience an enhanced education platform specific to a musician’s needs.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are Megan Kehren and Erin Archer, twin sisters and musicians from Knoxville, TN. We began our music journey in a copy/teacher workroom back in the late 80’s. (where else would you put a group of kids learning string instruments?) We fell in love with our viola and violin and never looked back. We were inspired early on to share the love of music and we both have been teaching string instruments for 25 years.
As music teachers, we understand the needs of our fellow instructors and are committed to providing exceptional solutions for those who strive for excellence in their students. With Muze, teachers and their students will have access to all the necessary tools to create a thriving and fully functional online music studio.
We take great pride in offering the finest audio quality for discerning music teachers. Our platform allows musicians to effortlessly log in, play with ease, and showcase the true tone of their instrument. We have yet to find another platform that can achieve this level of audio excellence.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As musicians, we’ve learned that making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process. Despite our experience in teaching and running music studios, we realized that our knowledge of the business world was limited when we started collaborating with the developers and marketing team at Design Sensory. To keep up with the conversation, we often had to Google unfamiliar terms and phrases. We were overwhelmed to say the least, and it was clear that we had a lot to learn. Our team was very patient with us and gained great insight from our specialized skill sets while we worked to catch up with what we needed to learn in business.
Fortunately, we were introduced to the incredible guidance and support of Knoxville Entrepreneur Center’s team of mentors. Their intensive programs, like Brand Camp and The Works, have been invaluable in helping us gain confidence and make great progress as we continue to navigate the business world.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Because we are active teachers and have been so for 25 years, we’ve developed trust and respect among the teaching community. Our colleagues have shared positive feedback with us, share Muze through word of mouth, and we are grateful for their support. We actively listen to their constructive feedback and implement changes to make Muze an even better teaching platform.
