Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erika Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erika, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I’ve took the risk of becoming a resume writer once loosing my partnership with one of the biggest tech companies ever just after 4 weeks. I went from my life is complete to what do I do now ? I was certain to get a job ASAP but that wasn’t the case. I received more rejections and stalled opportunities than ever before. I was so confused and concerned what would be my future. I went months with no consistency of income but the few resumes I did hoping one day it would expand into something great. Now when I look back I’m so happy to turn my nothing into something. Getting people careers in places they were getting into before. So I’m doing something right. I’m happy I took this risk and I’m still taking it everyday.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Erika. J. Thomas, I’m a mom & a 30year old resume writer and career coach; founder of Resume Bae University & Erika’s Resume Workshop. For a year I have been helping people get access in job searching for themselves to join the tech space. Helping people conquer their goals and result in self brand awareness starting with their resume.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I made sure to partner with solid mentors and people who only wanted to see the best in me so I could see the best in myself. Shoutout to mentors Sam A. , Erika A. and Chenae E. They are amazing people and amazing friends. Without them I’d still be coasting along. Ha ! You surround yourself with people you want to be like.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I’ve remained honest and a people person. I will never switch up and I make resumes fun. I allowed myself to always remain professional as well. We all. Make mistakes but I grow and learn just like everyone else. It’s called life. x
