We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erika Plackowski a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
I had been styling on and off for over 10 years and really was stuck on what direction to go into my career and business. After working with pageant contestants I started to find my niche. I hired a Business Coach in January 2020, she suggested I go in the direction of Pageant and Bridal. After a few months of working on content I struggled on created content and really making it work for both pageant clients and brides.
After having a meeting with my coach..she made me choose. Since I was married and planned my wedding in 7 months, bridal was easier because I knew about it through experience. So at that moment my coach said.. “Ok you’re The Bridal Stylist”
From that moment I was able to create content from experience. But this was during the pandemic. So weddings were on hold. I was patient, and in 2021 I helped several brides on their big day.
Erika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Erika Plackowski, The Bridal Stylist and I help brides create a stress-free luxury experience for their entire wedding style vision. I offer 3 Main Packages for brides. Full I Do package for brides which helps dress them for up to 6 events from Engagement Pics/Party to the Reception. A Day of White Glove Service as well a Complete The Look Package which helps find accessories after the already found their dress.
I’ve also just started creating custom items for Bridal Proposal Boxes.
What sets me apart from others is most bridal stylist is they only focus on the day of looks. I like to prepare the bride for their entire bridal styling process. All of the events they have while planning a wedding, what I do allows brides to focus on other parts of planning.
I really focus on the bride and her mindset as well. I want them to look and feel good. After planning my wedding in a short time, I like to also give them advice and reminders of what’s important. I develop friendships with my clients and that’s something that I’m proud of.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m sure this has been the case for many but in 2020 deciding to style brides when most wedding were on hold was tough. I learned to utilize zoom and meet with clients virtually. I shared pics and links of where they could shop. I did video calls while my clients tried on clothes. It all paid off. Over 50% of my clients aren’t in Michigan.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love everything about love and weddings. Your wedding photos will last forever even if your marriage doesn’t which I hope it does. But how you look and feel is important. My mission is to make sure my brides feel good and look good. I even allow vent sessions where they just discuss what’s stressing them. They have to be scheduled though. LOL.
