We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erika Moreno a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for my business came from the passion I’ve had since I was a little girl to become apart of the beauty industry. It started with the love of painting nails and the creativity I came up with which then developed into my interest in makeup and hair styling. After high school I started working at Bare Minerals which spiked my interest in the industry. It taught me how to care for my clients, listen to them, and bring to life what they envisioned. I use those tools till this day and I get so many compliments that I’ma good listener, I provide what they are looking for and I’m gentle with my application.

Erika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a senior in high school I was introduced to Bare Minerals Makeup which was a great start for a beginner. It’s a natural and light weight brand and I loved everything about it. They even had skin care that I would still recommend to this day. After I graduated I applied there as a beauty advisor and gained useful knowledge of how to approach and welcome clients. I would listen to them and what they wanted from that visit and have pure conversation as I was working with them. After leaving Bare Minerals I continued with getting a certification in makeup artistry and the rest was self taught. I added hair styling to my services shortly after as I wanted to be able to provide services for formal events: Prom, Engagements, Weddings, Birthdays, etc. I feel different from others in the sense that I engage with my clients and provide what they ask for. I’m usually requested due to my more natural application instead of heavy makeup. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and the projects I’m grateful to have been apart of. I have worked with some great photographers, models and fellow artists on fashion shoots and extravaganzas. I never thought I’d even make it this far but here I am and I’m grateful!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The most help came from friends and relatives who put my name out there and gave their experiences from my services. I have received many referrals thanks to my friends and family. Even fellow artists have referred me to their clients in assistance and based on that alone I have gained clientele.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of clientele has been my social media. I receive follow requests and direct messages for my services.
