We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erika Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erika below.
Alright, Erika thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
I was a barber for 10 years before I felt like I capped out and was ready to further grow and bring in more income in less time , I wouldn’t say I was burned out but I worked a lot of hours and always felt overwhelmed & wanted to spend more time with my kids , I had been thinking of Scalp micropigmentation for years prior and it was one of the best decisions of my life .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Erika Martinez & I’m the owner of Fort Worth SMP clinic near downtown Fort Worth, i got into micropigmentation in 2020 , i thought it would tie into barbering, although it has been a huge advantage coming from a Barber background , SMP is it’s own “monster” I’ve learned so much , have faced many obstacles but I can say I love It and wouldn’t have it any other way, I help people regain their confidence and change their lives , we really don’t know how people handle their insecurities , we all have them, some worse the others but we never know how it affects someone’s daily life.
I love to see the glow up in my clients face when they see their results , I’ve had clients break down in my chair , it’s heart warming and there is no better feeling than knowing I helped make that change for them
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Business was growing and I was becoming busier and busier, I knew I wanted more income and financial freedom , but I had built so many friendships with my clients that stuck with me for 10 plus years , I was working 7 days a week and feeling extremely overwhelmed I would literally cry, I had to quit barbering if I wanted to further my career with SMP.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When I first started I didn’t want to get into more debt, I started building my portfolio and started increasing my prices & everything I would make would go back into my business, wether it was marketing ads, business cards , supplies , shop decor, etc.
