We recently connected with Erika Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Erika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Right now the minimalist industrial trend is crowing from interior design to an all over design aspect. For example, instead of exposed pipes in the walls, now we have duck tape look alike elements in graphic designs for magazines and social media.
Incision this: Rough edges sweatshirt and baggy ripped pants with workers boots in a black and white picture filter.
That’s the new over all trend!
Erika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From bartender to fitness coach to business consultant and now graphic designer. Those have been some of my titles in the last 10 years.
After becoming a mom, and refusing to disappear in the title of a homemaker, I knew that there was something more out there for me to do while still being present for my child.
That’s when the online world boomed for me. A few months after being a business coach, coworkers started asking for advice and how could I help them.
Fast forward to 2019, when the whole word went online, that’s when a lot of businesses came to me for advice but mostly for visual marketing.
I focus my work on both aesthetics for the visual pleasure but also on the business marketing strategy behind that visual.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Giving the fact that it was pandemic season and everyone was online, I took advantage and started to show my work. Designs I was making, behind the scenes designs process and even my life as a business owner and mom multitasking.
Clients started showing my designs to friends and on social. Tagging my social platforms on their projects and referring me as a trusted designer.
Almost 4 yrs later, referrals are still the biggest lead source in my company.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My clients know my focus is not just to make it look pretty. It’s also to send a message.
What’s the point of it being pretty if it doesn’t convey a message like “you need this/you want this.”
Not only having the visual marketing focus has set me apart but trusting my instincts as a Projector in HD and Scorpio in astrology. Clients appreciate being understood far beyond a name and a color. I take the time with each of them to connect to their energy, their business energy and find what they don’t even know they want.
