We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erika Livingston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erika below.
Erika , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
Yes, I take vacations or “breaks”… you have to or you will definitely get burned out! There are certain times of the year where things are not as busy, so I definitely take advantage of those times. It should be the norm to step away, even if it is for a day or two or three. We have to make sure we are taking care of ourselves so our business can thrive.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
A Cakeful of Joy is an online bakery that specializes in making cakes and treats. We take pride in using natural ingredients and having a quick turnaround time. We are most excited about being able to continue to use our tried and true recipes and still be able to create and try new things, keeping the rich flavors in tack. We recently just published our cookbook, “The Joy of Baking”, which is available on Amazon, and we are very proud of this accomplishment.
We provide cakes and treats for our customers that make them feel like they are home for the holidays or at a special occasion. We love taking care of our customers for small or large orders. We have built a family with our customers and we are so glad they continue to choose us.
I want the world to know that A Cakeful of Joy is committed to bringing a piece of joy into every cake and treat you order from us. We strive to make it feel like a special occasion every time you do business with us. Our brand was built on the foundation of joy and love, and we are committed to provide that!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Last year, we had to pivot and expand our products. It was a learning curve, but one that was rewarding. It took hours and hours of research and practice, as well as, updating our website and marketing. I will say that it has probably been one of the better decisions we have made with the business and we are happy our customers are pleased.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth!! And we are so grateful that people recommend our business to others. We are in a time where people are more aware of their spending, so we have to be strategic in how we navigate in the current economy. With that being said, when people share or like or mention your name in a social media post, it gets the word out and helps companies survive!
