Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erika Kamish. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Erika thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
The Covid times are a near but distant memory but for me, it was just the beginning. I started my own aesthetic concierge practice. Sounds like a silly and irresponsible thing to do as most businesses were put on pause or even closing their doors.
As people were sitting at home, baking sourdough, making tik-tok’s, and doing lots of zooming, many people needed their “fix”- their “tox fix” that is! I had many patients reaching out to me to come to their homes to treat their forehead lines. Although it is a very new and different way of performing a medical procedure, it was always under sterile conditions just as it would be in a medical office. The medical and aesthetic world stress to the general population to “only do treatments by medical professionals, with certified degrees and in a medical setting”. This is something I have personally struggled to accept as the “norm” because I am not the norm. I am a medical professional, certified with degrees and extensive training on the medical procedures I perform I yet still worry that I am judged by my peers.
Starting this business for me was a blessing and a challenge as I believe any venture should, could and would be. From having partners, to not having partners, to difficult conversations and people, starting and owning a business is a continuous learning curve. I believe my greatest strength in being a business owner is being open, communicative, and two important factors – being calm and true to yourself. It is important to be calm so you can handle difficult decision, conversations with a clear mind. This is the most productive way of accomplishing ones goals. Being true to yourself, believing in yourself, in your product, pitch or idea will lead you to greatness.
Erika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Botox was a highly requested concierge service during Covid and I turned it into a business. Botox on the terrace, porch, bathroom, double masked, gowned and almost 6 ft apart (not actually), I made it happen. Many people noted that because they see themselves more on zoom, their lines are more noticeable or bother them. I also had many women who simply just needed their botox just as much as anyone else needed manicures or massages during covid.
Over time, simply because of my patient satisfaction and retention, I realize the need for the service that I am providing. It is more than Botox for wrinkles. It is convenience, personal relationship and attention to detail for each of my patients. This encouraged me to continue what I was doing and grow my treatment profile. From micro-needling, chemical peels, microgold facials and skin care consults, concierge aesthetics makes it easy, convenient, super personalized to each individual patient- for the busy moms who have little time to get that “self-care”, for the working individual who doesn’t have time to step away during a typical 9-5 work day for an appointment, for the men who want the treatment without having to step into a med spa, or for groups who just want to get together and have a good time.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of the experiences throughout my career helped encourage and propel me to be independant and truly believe in myself. After two years of employment with no complaints from patients, other co-workers or anything really for that matter, I was faced with still having to prove my worth to the company. I believed I was taken for granted, expendable, unworthy and that my talent was unrecognized. I bravely removed myself from this situation and made myself better for it. I believed in myself, in my talent, in my work and I was supported by my peers and even my patients. I rose to th efences
