We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erika Carrillo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erika below.
Erika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
As an experienced freelance creative, I have worked with many clients who are eager to elevate their marketing content. From website design to promotional materials to product photography. I have the expertise to help any start-up business make a memorable first impression.
My friend started a spice business named Lucky 22 Spice Co. She had a mission to become a professional spice company. And I was available to help her with all her creative needs on a week-to-week basis. After working for two years with her, She has gained many new customers and has accomplished several business goals.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My passion for photography has only grown over the years. I have been a successful graphic designer for over two decades. I’ve worked with various companies from art galleries, and advertising companies to broadcasting networks. Knowing that beautiful Imagery has always been an important element to any project. I decided to evolve and find a new niche that I could thrive in.
I’ve been lucky enough to live in vibrant cities that have always inspired me to keep creating and continue pursuing my artistic purpose.
I consider myself down-to-earth and easygoing. I am always seeking new opportunities to collaborate with companies, artists, and other creatives. To create beautiful and unique works that spark emotion and tell a story.
I started taking photography clients three years ago, and since then my portfolio has been filled with Family Portraits, Event Photography, Natural Headshots to Advertising/Product photography.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I feel grateful for the blessings in my life, despite having faced some challenging times. One of the most challenging moments of my life was when I decided to leave my Broadcasting Creative director position to become a stay-at-home mom. It had taken me a long time to earn my bachelor’s degree and it took several months of dedication, and persistence to secure this job. I felt confused and terrified, was I making the right decision?
However, I wanted to be a full-time mom because I believed it would benefit my children in the long run. So, I put my career life on pause for three years. Desperate to find something that would help me unleash my creativity and make me feel accomplished again. I started freelancing, designing marketing material, and taking professional photographs. This reignited my creative spark and gave me much-needed motivation. Maybe I could work and be a full-time mom after all.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I always have socialized with people in my community, trying to be a part of a new group. I have also met many business owners through my children’s school and extracurricular activities.
