We were lucky to catch up with Erika Bernardini recently and have shared our conversation below.

Erika , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.

I hadn’t realized this at the time, but I believe the most defining moment for my professional career was on my 18th birthday when I totaled my candy apple red Pontiac Grand Prix while on my way to trade it in.

At that moment, I was pretty sure my entire world imploded on me.
But little did I know, as I look back so many years later, it was actually the catalyst in my healing journey and initiation as a Shamanic practitioner.

Through all the pain I endured from that one accident, I learned that pain is inevitable in life. But suffering– is optional.

I had just left my Dad’s house in Skowhegan Maine, and was heading out for my 18th birthday celebrations. I had no idea that this day would be the moment that changed the entire trajectory of my life. I made one over correction and lost control of my car. As I was pulled into the ditch, I recall thinking “wow, this is the moment I am going to die.” After slipping out of my seatbelt just enough, my head made connection with the windshield and the impact created a beautiful star pattern. I managed to pull myself from the car thinking it was going to explode. I also recall seeing several people come around me before I lost consciousness. I continued going in and out after the ambulance arrived and took me to the closest hospital.

Near death experiences are known to assist humans in an “awakening process” that cannot be fully understood until you are in the thick of the experience.
An unlearning in a sense, where we realize what we have to be grateful for, relationships with people we love, all the things we wished we did, could have done, should have done. In a blink, it all floods in.

This experience led me to all the places I was playing small and could level up my life. It showed me where I was holding on to trauma bonded relationships and where I could let go. We realize in moments like this, that if we are not who we wish to see in this world that it is never too late to pivot and redirect onto a more meaningful path. Through my challenging life experiences, they have taught me to love myself more, to be transparent and share my stories because you never know who is listening and being impacted or inspired. I share my stories and my truths because I am a survivor and I am so thankful that I survived that accident to continue speaking my truth and inspiring others to keep on keeping on. We all deserve to rise to the highest versions of ourselves, regardless of circumstances out of our control. We are here to transmute energies, elevate consciousness, heal our traumas and thrive as a collective humanity.

Erika , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I stumbled upon what is now Eclectic Evolution through my own desperate need to heal my mind, body and spirit. I had reached a standstill with eastern medicine and was in content with the way pharmaceuticals were being offered to me. I knew there had to be more to life than what was presently shown in my reality and I started to research other healing modalities around the world. As an Asian female growing up in northern Maine, I was faced with a backlash of discrimination and forced to hide my culture and learned very little about it from my family. As an adult I am working to repair this fragment by teaching my children things I wish I had been taught. Learning about our Asian culture took me down a most mystical rabbit hole and led to my discovery and fascination with Reiki energy.

According to the International Center for Reiki Training, “Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.”

As a survivor of multiple traumatic brain injuries, Reiki has been an important piece of the puzzle in my healing journey. We know that everything is energy. What happens when we learn to hone in on our feelings, emotions, triggers, traumas, etc? What happens when we allow ourselves to get vulnerable, and really feel to heal.
We know that laws like the Law of Attraction [and Karma] are very real. You get what you put out. So what if we send intentional healing energy to our inner child? Our younger self heals and we create ripples. (Think Ashton Kutcher’s movie, The Butterfly Effect.)

Quantum things happen when we begin to shift our perspective and begin to believe in magic and miracles. It is said, “those who don’t believe in magic, will never find it.” I think the same can be reversed and said here. If you believe in quantum shifts and divine intervention.. that is the very place we find miracles and magic. 

I have defied so many odds stacked against me, and I will continue to represent energy healing by authentically walking my own talk and healing any and all fragments and stagnant energy that may linger. 

Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?

So this piece of my story is still coming together. But it is really beautiful.

My mother in law, Cheryl Lynn, was injured by medical malpractice many years ago and fought for compensation. Years and years went by, while my paraplegic Mom laid in her bed staring at four walls.
She finally won what was owed to her but remained homebound and unable to use her settlement funds as it was set to take care of her medical needs for the remainder of her life. Her life was cut short in 2021 when she passed away from heart failure after her covid immunization.

As the family inheritance has been disbursed, my husband Chris (Cheryl’s first born son) and I are working to birth Eclectic Evolution in central Florida and eventually back up north in Maine. We are doing this work for Cheryl, and to heal the generational traumas within our bloodlines. For my babies. For Cheryl’s grandchildren. + for the ripple of mother wound healing into the world.

Side story: The day after my mother in law passed away, I learned I was expecting my 5th child. A little girl that we named CaraLynn. Cara is an Italian variation of Cheryl. 

We will continue sharing our stories, sharing our light and holding space for others to heal, grow and evolve with us.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn and learn what unconditional love is. I came from a challenging childhood with a workaholic Mom and an alcoholic Dad. I tell myself they did the best they could.. but it is my priority mission in my adult life as a mother to be the best I can be, do the things they couldn’t. I have 5 children I was told I would never have, so it is vital that I love them in all the ways that I needed love as a child. I am breaking generational curses, and letting go of “family traditions” that simply do not work for me as a parent in today’s society.

This lesson is so relevant in the work that I do because so many adults today are walking around with deep inner child wounds that get projected into their current reality. We must recognize these patterns and relearn our own truths. This is how we begin to stand in our authentic power and live to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be.
