We were lucky to catch up with Erika Applegate recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erika, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I really enjoy having my creative business. It’s been working really well with my life and family. I get to create my pieces in the comfort of my own home, while still being able to take care of my kids. Then, in the weekends when my husband is off, I get to go out and hang out with some cool vendors during markets. It works really well for us and I’m thankful I get to use my creativity to bring in some extra income.

Erika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I make polymer clay earrings and my favorite part about them is how lightweight they are. I started making them as a hobby, then decided I wanted to sell them just to make enough money to buy more supplies… one thing led to another and now two years later I have a business that creates wearable art. I am very proud that I was able to create employment for myself and it’s something that fills my cup.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Definitely interacting with my customers and getting to hear their stories and how my earrings become part of such fun stories. That is so heart warming and rewarding.
