We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erik Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erik below.
Erik, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
For the longest time I thought being an Artist as a “job” would ruin it for me. Then I realized that was a ridiculous way of looking at it, and I need to make money somehow, why not doing something I Love.?? I’ve always made Art. It’s always made sense to me. It’s what I’m here to do. Why not get paid for it????

Erik, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Mostly I create original Ink artworks, prints, pins, T-shirt’s, and the occasional sticker. Im also dabbling in Animation and filmmaking as of late. I love creating, no matter the medium. I have a saying, “Hand me something, I’ll make Art with it”, and I mean it.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I want to create, pure and simple. I’m not good at the business part, or the organization part, or the customer service part. I create, because I Must. Even if I hadn’t made a cent in weeks, I’ll have several Artworks to show for those weeks. There aren’t too many professions where people might keep doing it, regardless of business, but to be me that’s almost not important.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Making people feel something. Angry, Sad, Happy, it doesn’t matter. Anything other than indifference is welcomed.
