Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ericka Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Ericka, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
As a wedding officiant I often here- oh I can get my brother/Aunt/Cousin to do or for travel- oh I can get look up prices myself. All of which are true however what they are both lacking is the true customer experience. The service I provide my clients, my family is 2nd to none. There are those that see the worth in your work and what you do and those are my ideal clients. I have rates to fit almost every couple and work hard to prove the value of working with a professional.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I wear a lot of different hats but my favorite with Expertise Services & Weddings are as a wedding officiant since 2016 and as a travel agent since 01/2022. I have wed close to 450 couples and have booked almost $30,000 in travel in my six months of travel. This is all due to client experience I provide. Word of mouth, referrals and reviews are my number one drivers to keeping me busy.
In conjunction with my travel entity- DestinationByErickaD.- I am now offering a FREE wedding ceremony with the booking of a destination ceremony or honeymoon package. This is a $150 value and when booking a destination wedding ensures you are legally married here in the U.S.!
By day I work as the Legal Project Manager for the 4th largest renewable energy company globally where I manage a team of coordinator and specialists specifically for the legal department and I manage a $30+ million annual budget across North America including the US, Mexico & Canada.
I use all of these skills to keep my clients, my family happy knowing they are in great hands.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
As I mentioned, I am all about the client experience. I want to under promise and over achieve. I have taken time to curate questionnaires that answer almost any question related to booking a ceremony or taking a trip. Because of the experience of 1 I encourage my new family to share the word. Word of mouth, referrals and reviews are my number one drivers to keeping me busy. I work hard on my social platforms and in my community to bring additional exposure to my business.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My positive and getter done attitude. I am a preferred officiant at several local venues. One in particular on my first meeting I was meeting a couple for the first time at rehearsal. The group was a bit rambunctious and the venue coordinator was on her first week, first rehearsal. I corralled the group and successful completed 3 full run throughs in a 50 minute span. Of course wedding day was a bit chaotic but I used my techniques to pull the bridal party together, shorten the ceremony in all the appropriate areas and still managed to please the couple, guests and venue. The next week they offered me a spot at their monthly mixer and their preferred officiant spot. Sometimes it just takes a little initiative in front of the right person. You never know who can influence your business.
