We were lucky to catch up with Erick Oluoch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, folks often look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight – but that often obscures all the nitty, gritty details of everything that went into the growth phase of your business. We’d love to hear about your scaling story and how you scaled up?
Being your own boss and or having to make your own business decisions is tricky and scary but at the same time in order to improve and scale up changes had to be made , I was always thinking if I wanted to do this (DJ) full time but with no accomplishments under my belt as a Dj I had to prove myself to many club promoters, event organizers and many more, so I started making mixtapes and trying to push them through radio and other music platforms which helped to get noticed by some of the People mentioned above. The next step was to get my face out there (put a face to the name) as they say. I started doing a lot of private events which were pushed by my videos on social media and since I was getting positive feedback and a lot of shares that also got a lot of club owners attention and as soon as I was getting the direct messages I was not missing on any of them, I took every opportunity that came my way. I still do my videos on social media to push and expand further, the dream is always to perform on one and or any of the biggest stages and share the good energy .
Erick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, my name is Ace, I also go by #hypemasterofficial am a Dj/entertainer ,I provide sound and Dj services for all kind of events . My passion for music and with my dance choreography background I felt right at home, I knew what people like to dance to and vibe to so two birds one stone if I may. I started my own website (thehypemaster.com) where clients can book and or ask questions on whatever it may be music service wise, since I run it myself I am able to respond to my clients very first. I believe the way that I play differs from every other Dj I also provide self inspired remixes that sometimes I have clients request for which is really inspiring just from the fact that I do that in a home studio with nobody but me in there. I also started doing Dj training classes that help those who are interested in the art this creates a connection between me and the client and we learn from each other as we progresses .
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I remember when covid started and clubs and social events were shutting down i lost all my investors from a tour I wanted to do, I was mad but at the same time there was nothing I could have done so I got myself together and went back to my old job at Walmart and that helped out with the bills and everything . Later on I started doing Facebook live shows and sharing through the other social media platforms , honestly that was an amazing move since it helped build my clientele and i have gained more friendships and business partners just from that.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe my hard work has helped push my brand reputation and the consistency has helped keep myself in the right space.
