We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erick Mojica a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erick, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
It all started with the idea that I liked personal training and coaching baseball. For the first several years I was doing both, and going through a swing of which one I liked more.
As I developed my skills, I began to realize how unique I am as a baseball coach. Not only can I coach a lot of baseball technique, but I can speed up the development process and get results faster with my knowledge of movement science.
For example, if I have a kid who has a hard time catching the baseball, I can provide vision drills instead of just having them practice catch play.
The more I applied my knowledge of movement science, the more I realized the impact it makes with my baseball lessons. It became a no-brainer to go all in with this line of work.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve loved baseball all of my life. When I got to college, I quickly learned that kinesiology was another passion to pursue.
Playing college baseball, I always knew that I had to get an edge however I could. I was a 5’8 pitcher who didn’t throw very hard, so I looked for everything. Strength and conditioning, arm care, nutrition, and studying biomechanics.
It wasn’t until I graduated that I got to more impactful concepts through my continuing education. Now that I have this education and always looking for more, I know that it is my purpose to coach younger players and coach them the way I wish I could’ve been coached.
Not to take anything away from several amazing coaches that I had. Even with their guidance I was always hungry to learn more. I can only dream how much better I would’ve developed if I had me as a coach.
And that’s what my work is all about. Giving baseball kids the ultimate experience to develop their skills and see how good they can get with the game.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In the first few years, I had to unlearn that having quality education would keep me successful in this business.
Client retention was a struggle for me for several years. If I had a good relationship and delivered results, why didn’t they stick with me?
I thought that all I had to do was apply what I know and be helpful.
While clients value how knowledgeable you are, how you communicate and create value is what creates long term business success.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Although my following isn’t very big yet, I’ve had to learn how to detach myself from what I post online.
I was always self-conscious on what my audience would think about me. Checking for likes and views constantly. Feeling embarrassed if a post wasn’t very popular. I would shut down and say, “this is dumb, I don’t want to post this.”
“Everyone thinks that I want to be an influencer.”
Lots of self limiting beliefs and conversations.
Once I stopped caring about popularity on social media, I found myself being more consistent with posting. Coincidentally, the views and likes have gone up.
Today, all that matters is that an audience can see how I coach and help parents and players get ideas to add to their practice/training routines.
