We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erick Duenas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Erick, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
When we started Finesse back in 2017, we started with a photo booth in a yellow box that was stored in a room in our house. Eventually, we had to get a storage because things were starting to pile up in our living space and my wife was not happy about that. One of the things I have learned about business, is that your presentation matters from the moment your potential client clicks on your website to the finished product. We are a business where face to face is important because we create relationships to connect to our clients. Every time we needed to meet up with a potential client, we met at a local coffee shop or meeting spaces around town. So i said to my self, “How great would it be to have a beautiful office with a nice long table, a TV to display our work during a meeting, and be able to offer fresh coffee or a cold drink while in a meeting? So I began looking into an office space to store our equipment and have a presentable meeting space that would impress our future clients. The risk is always thinking if you can afford it or what happens on a slow month and you cant pay the rent. One thing I’ve learned is that you have to invest to make more, and so we invested into our beautiful office and we feel that because of it, our business has doubled.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Erick Duenas and I am a creator/business owner/father/husband/son/problem solver/and much more. Music and entertainment runs in my veins since i could remember, so that has been my path since the beginning. One day my wife and i decided that we needed to get into business while we were young so one day with much discipline and consistency, we could have an empire and legacy for our future family. We understood that it would not be easy but one of the hardest things in life is STARTING anything; so that same night, we started a business called Finesse. The thing that sets us apart from our competitors is understanding how important customer service is along side the smallest details to create wonderful high quality products. We are in an industry of celebrations of emotions and accomplishments. People want to be wowed by not only a product, but by an experience not common to their daily lives, so we provide that.

I just want to say something very simple about MANY situations that have gone wrong. It’s not about what went wrong, but about how you recover from it. Things will always go wrong because we are in an industry of problem solving no matter how well you prepared. So after a bad day, figure out how to prevent it for the future, and move on to the next day. Like a famous preacher once said, “this too, shall pass.”
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Our business has different ways of making income by providing different services that are necessary for all types of events. We offer DJ & MC Services, Photo booth & 360 photo booth, Photography & Cinematography, and Planning & Coordinating events. The thing that we really like about offering all of these services, is that when we work together, there is a calm flow to our events because we work so well together and have the mind set of searching for and providing great customer care.
