Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erick Bradshaw Jr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erick, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind my mission. I get asked this often and feel that my mission as a content creator is to help me understand that I path is given for direction. Many people feel like it is only one path but in my eyes when you are driving to a place your gps may give you a total different direction then they would if someone lived in a different area, life is the exact way. We are on here to have a story and we all want to complete our mission no matter what direction it is that we as human beings are going. My mission I believe is to really help people understand the true value of themselves and allow them to understand that through any craft you can make it successful and notable to many people who find value. Your mission is your story and over the past few years, I have been blessed to help people and show them that there is more then one way to go for your mission and be open minded with different crafts on their pathways.
Erick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Erick Bradshaw Jr. I’m from Spartanburg SC. South Carolina will forever be home. I then moved to Kentucky where I did most of my schooling and lived most of my years from the age of 16-21. Once I completed school I was in a very dark spot to where I was not sure as to what route I personally wanted to take until one day I set down turned on YouTube and it all clicked for me. I wanted to do YouTube and create content. I never did anything like that but I know how socially active I was and know how much I enjoyed gaming so I said why not? I started creating content for gaming in 2021 and within 6 months I was monetized off playing video games. After while I wanted to move and be bigger so I just packed my bags and moved to Houston Texas which is where I live at now. This was the greatest decision of my life. I worked as well as played and did my content for YouTube still trying to grow then one day I was in the mall and seen people doing what they call Public interviews. Growing up I always got bored easily so I saw that and switched my whole craft around. I’ve been in Houston for two years and I have completely stopped doing gaming and shifted my whole focus point to public things and people actually was entertained by it. So today in 2023 I am still doing public interviews and making more public videos that I find pleasure in doing.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Through my journey, I have learned many lessons and my biggest lesson I have learned is that no matter what you do, do it for you. You cannot live life trying to please everyone because no matter what you do someone is going to be upset or not like that you did it that way anyways. Many times before I have changed and tried to make content only to be the focus point of people that was telling me that they don’t like it. So I held my head up and said I need to remove certain people from my circle so that I can focus on my ideas. Once I did that I was able to gain support from people that I don’t even know at all which still is crazy to me because I realized that it is a audience for every piece of content that you do.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I’ll give you three things that you will probably struggle with when trying to either get people to understand your journey. Number one, I would say ‘the box’, people starting off have a hard time getting out of their box or comfort zone and when doing that you may feel up tight and feel weird with doing certain things because your not used to being outside the box. My biggest advice is to practice. Stand in the mirror in the morning and just practice without the camera. Number two I would say stay away from looking at your numbers. Although numbers run the world, numbers can also ruin your craft. If you pay attention to your numbers then you’ll never truly get the success you are looking for. My advice is to make so much content that you don’t have time to look at the numbers. Lastly, I would say you would struggle with getting people to actually see your vision. When people don’t know the vision or see the vision like you see it, it makes it hard as a creative to feel supported. My biggest advice for this is to understand that the vision is your and its up to you to be open minded about what is that you want to do as a content creator.
