We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Erica Wilfong a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, thanks for joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents are no longer here but their impact on me is eternal. I learned hard work and discipline from them. Also, my mom was very creative and I believe I inherited that from her!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I started éire skincare based on a desire to have my own business as well as solve a problem. I have very sensitive skin and can’t use a lot of products so I decided to create my own with all natural ingredients. I currently offer four products; skin soufflé, face oil, spritz and beard oil. I sell direct to consumer as well via a boutique and spa. My skin soufflé is my most popular product which also happens to be esthetician approved. I have created a very loyal customer base and really appreciate everyone who has made a purchase, written a review and told a friend!
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I currently sell on Shopify. I chose them because they offered everything I needed. They truly want to see their customers win and offer tons of free resources to help you reach your business goals.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would tell anyone starting a business to make sure you do all your due diligence prior to launching. I hired a business consultant who did a name check and unfortunately it wasn’t accurate and I ended up having to change my business name which also included a lot of rebranding costs. It was a learning experience but I was able to choose a better suited name for me. Fortunately, my products spoke louder than the name and I was able to make the changes without a major interruption. With that being said, make sure you trademark your business prior to launching.
