We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica V. Walton . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica V. below.
Hi Erica V., thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I’m a mother of many. A coach to many. An inspiration to many as well. My hope is that the stories past down about me, are of love and thriving. I want my daughter’s daughters and their daughters to know that life doesn’t have to be rough. I want them to know that there’s more than trauma in our families. I want to be remembered for my tenacity, courage and grace. I would love to be a beacon of light in the midst of storms. For someone to say she never gave up and I know I can make it because she did.
Erica V., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started writing in sixth grade. Short spooky stories were my favorites. Similar to Goosebumps except my characters were black. For a short while I stopped writing because I was told writing wouldn’t make good money. After a series of unfortunate events in my life, journaling began to be all I could lean on. In 2015, at the age of 32, I turned my journals into a book. It was my hope to share everything I have hid for so long. After that book I closed my nonprofit organization for girls and began my coaching courses. Annually, I turn my journals into self help guides for women. I publish them as well as create self care groups based on each chapter. In 2019, some chapters turned into full wellness retreats.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Deepak Chopra’s books Abundance, Seven Laws of Spiritual Success and Daymond Johnson’s The Power of Broke have been extremely inspiring for me. It allowed me to get out of the mindset of hustle and worry.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is there aren’t any rules. I don’t have to worry about a higher up controlling my process. I am able to put out what speaks to me and those that are aligned support it. There’s no superficial attachment to my work. There’s no unrealistic expectation of me.
