We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica Russell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica below.
Erica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
The fastest and healthiest way to grow your business is to focus on profit first. My company uses a proven cash management system that allows our clients to be vigilant about their expenses and keep them informed about what’s going on with their money… positioning themselves for growth opportunities. My lesson on cash management came early when I was working on a job barely making ends meet and when that direct deposit hit…everyone took their money leaving me with nothing…I had no control over how I wanted to allocate my money.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I fell in love with accounting when I took a class in high school. I’ve always been a “numbers person” and when I took that accounting course, a light bulb went off for me and I knew I wanted this to be my career. I’ve always had a fascination with numbers and have always done well in math, so accounting seemed like a perfect fit. I went to school for accounting and business and have worked in the industry for over 25 years. Today I have my own firm Empire Estates Group, LLC.
My degrees of study are business and accounting with over 20 years of experience
I’m a certified financial instructor, credit consultant, Quickbooks Pro Advisor, and Profit First Professional
My firm provides Bookkeeping and Business Advisory Services, I make businesses more profitable by using a proven cash management system…eradicating entrepreneurial poverty is our specialty
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Profit First…was a game changer…not only for my firm…but also for the clients that I service.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I remember when I use to take pride in mastering the ability to make magic with pennies but as my revenue started to grow…I had to make sure I wasn’t finding a good enough reason to spend it all.
