We were lucky to catch up with Erica Lynne recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erica, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Last summer I released an EP dedicated to my late mother, Terry Lynne, called “MOM”. It’s a collection of 5 songs released on her birthday last year (July 3rd, 2021). It had been a year since she had passed and the songs had been partially created during down time while I was with her the last few months. I was grateful to be able to immerse myself in her memory and share it with others. Even though sometimes it was really emotional, it helped soothe my heart and help heal the wound to work on this project and its release.
Those who signed up for the release received the music, videos & special extras last July. Now that a year has gone by, I’m finally ready to share the videos and music (minus the special extras) with everyone. You can find the audio on my Soundcloud and the videos on my Youtube (soon FB & IG).

Erica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I create music with all the love in my heart. I call them “melodies made with love”. Instrumental electronic music full of melodies and rhythms created to warm your heart, touch your soul and move your feet.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am driven to spend my life exploring my sonic creativity while sharing it with others who enjoy. It’s the only thing that satisfies my soul and has been my dream since childhood. The goal is the journey, and an understanding of some factors that make it possible for creatives like me to embark on this journey mean a lot to me. I’d like to share a bit with you.
We live in a time and place that is advanced and prosperous enough that many creatives can make a good living from their art. Many take that for granted but I don’t, It’s huge! It’s such a blessing that we don’t have to spend all of every day sustaining our lives (ie. securing food, shelter, safety etc)… we stand on the shoulders of all those that came before us and contributed to making life better and easier. We have amazing tools, more food than we can eat, better living conditions and more free time than anyone who came before us.
Speaking of amazing tools, my music would not exist in its current form if I didn’t have a computer. It gives me a whole orchestra (& more) at my fingertips, not to mention a smart phone where I can record a video of me playing my music & share it with the world! It’s truly amazing!
Another crucial component I have immense appreciation and gratitude for… the freedom to own these tools and my creations as my personal property, do what I want with them, and to have ownership of the fruit all of this bears (so important!). This is not true of all human history or even everywhere in the world today, and is a critical factor for creatives like myself wanting to make a living from our craft. By the way we also have the right to sign this ownership away, and those who have signed away the rights of their art to a record label know exactly how important this is but unfortunately it’s usually too late.
The ability to choose how to spend my life is something I hold very dear… to work hard, receive the fruits of my labor/creativity and even to fail if I don’t measure up (just like any other small business). Everything I mentioned (& more) makes it possible and I’m beyond grateful.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
A crew called Indepreneur has been my most valuable marketing resource. They have taken traditional direct marketing techniques and adapted them to music marketing better than anyone else I know of. They have a podcast called creative juice that folks can check out for free to see if it resonates with them.
