We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica Lampley. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica below.
Erica, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew at a young age that I wanted to pursue a creative path. When I was 14 or 15, I took my first art class in high school. I immediately fell in love. The teenage years can be difficult as you’re transitioning from a child to an adult and trying to find your place in the world. Getting lost in making art, I was most at peace with myself.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
While I was pursuing artistic avenues in high school, I learned about Graphic Design. I researched it and realized I could have a legit career being creative. I went head-first down that path with no plan B. I excelled in that career for a decade. With the rise of digital marketing, my job became cranking out iterations of the same thing over and over again. I just wasn’t feeling fulfilled creatively anymore. I was in a different season of life at that point with two young children. If I had to make a big change, I realized I just wanted to paint.
That’s when I started getting into murals. What I love about them is:
1.) Murals are art that everyone can experience and enjoy,
2.) Murals can be a creative blend of art and branding or they can be large-scale beautiful art,
3.) I excel at large projects that can be broken down into actionable steps.
With a passion for storytelling through visual art, I create captivating visuals that speak to the soul and resonate with the essence of the space and its inhabitants. Art is more than just a painting. I make art to evoke emotions, ignite a sense of wonder, awaken your inspiration, and create a beautiful experience.
I collaborate with clients, capturing their vision and infusing it with my creativity. From residential homes to commercial establishments, public spaces to private sanctuaries, every commission is an opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, tailored to the individuality of each person and their space. Collaboration is at the heart of my approach, ensuring their voice is heard every step of the way. I take the time to understand their desires, aspirations, and the unique story they wish to tell. Through a seamless blend of artistic skill and client-focused dedication, I transform their ideas into captivating visuals that surpass expectations.
I take pride in my commitment to excellence and professionalism. Timely project completion, meticulous attention to detail, and unwavering dedication to surpassing expectations are the hallmarks of my service. With me, clients can be assured of a seamless and gratifying experience from start to finish.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think what most non-creatives struggle to understand is the insatiable desire to create. It’s difficult for me to feel content in monotony. If I’m in a place where I can’t paint, like running errands or at kids’ sports events, I’m often in my head creating art. It can appear as if I’m disinterested or checked out, but the reality is my brain is very active! I feel terrible when someone says they saw me but I didn’t notice them. I constantly live in two places at once: the actual world and my creative world. I love talking to people and being with people! Sometimes I just need help coming back to the present.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I get to make the world a more beautiful place!
