We recently connected with Erica Holloway and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Erica thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
As Bala’s Content Director, I was tasked with developing new content streams that would showcase our products and inspire movement. I knew that our target audience was young, active women, so I wanted to create content that was both relatable and aspirational.
I came up with the idea of creating a content stream called #BalaBabe. The idea was to feature real women from all walks of life who were incorporating Bala products into their everyday lives. I wanted to show that Bala was for everyone, regardless of fitness level, body type, or lifestyle.
The #BalaBabe content stream was a huge success. It quickly became one of Bala’s most popular content streams, and it helped to increase brand awareness and sales. The idea also expanded and grew into other content streams of their own, such as Bala’s Studio Edit and Bala Mama’s.
I’m proud of the #BalaBabe content stream because it was innovative, inclusive, and it achieved Bala’s goals. It showed that Bala was a brand for everyone, and it inspired women everywhere to move their bodies in their own unique way.

Erica, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a freelance creative with a deep understanding of inclusive and innovative design. I am passionate about creating work that is both visually appealing and meaningful, and I believe that everyone deserves to see themselves represented in the media. My background as a union stylist and costumer, as well as a brand/content director, has given me the skills and experience to create work that is both aesthetically pleasing and impactful. I am eager to work with brands that share my values and are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As a creative/art director, one of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the ability to assemble a team of talented individuals to create something new. I love being able to tap into the expertise of different people and bring their unique perspectives to bear on a project. It’s incredibly gratifying to see a team come together and create something truly special.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
In our quest for newness, we often overlook the power of iteration and refinement.
As creatives, we are always looking for the next big thing. We want to come up with new ideas that are innovative and groundbreaking. But in our quest for newness, we often overlook the power of iteration and refinement.
Iteration is the process of taking an existing idea and improving it over time. It is about making small changes that add up to make a big difference. Refinement is the process of polishing and perfecting an idea. It is about making sure that every detail is just right.
Iteration and refinement are not always glamorous. They can be time-consuming and tedious. But they are essential for creating truly great work.
The next time you are feeling stuck, don’t be afraid to iterate and refine your ideas. It may just be the key to creating something truly special.
