We recently connected with Erica Griffin and have shared our conversation below.
Erica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
So, one risk I took was quitting a job that started causing me mental distress. I am a full-time photographer, but also a full-time single parent and the main source of my family, so the stakes were pretty high. As a small business owner, there are times when I have less work, so I stayed with a regular job to make ends meet. However, when I made the choice to leave, I knew what I was up against. After all, my mind is permanent, but the job was temporary. The big fact is that everyone in the workplace is replaceable!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Erica Griffin, I’m a lifestyle Branding, Maternity, and Wedding Photographer, a mother of 2, and a beautiful soul. I’m based but not limited to Cincinnati,Ohio. I started my journey right before I graduated college. I woke and realized I have 2 children and that I needed to progress my goals of future. Looking back I would have changed so much of what I did to start, but I’m thriving now and still learning new things about me and my business.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The power of word-of-mouth? Being your true self takes you a long way, and that’s what most of my clients are here thanks to! In this fast-paced world full of technology and social media, you’d think having a face-to-face conversation wouldn’t make an impact, but it does. First impressions matter, it’s a part of life. That one conversation with someone can lead to a long-lasting relationship that’s full of awesome leads!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
OMG this one is really a good topic. there is so many things I could say, but i’ll start with this. Having a mentor thats already established and ready to lend a teaching hand is really important. When I think back, If I had a a mentor I would have catapolted futher then I am now. From changing my mindset to learning the backend of business really has changed me. In 1 year I have learned the ways of bettering my career to the point that I’ve been able to help others with starting theirs. Learning new tecniques and creating my own never stops. Having a mentor opens the doors to many resources that opens more doors for opportunities.
