We were lucky to catch up with Erica Diloreto recently and have shared our conversation below.
Erica , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
The biggest thing I have learned since becoming a business owner is that it’s never your friends and family who support your business, its complete strangers. Relaying on friends and family to support your business is not a smart business move either in my opinion, this day in age people feel very entitled and expect a free service / discount because they are family/friend etc. Of course I have a few friends who support me but I would say 99% of my business my clientele started as complete strangers, now I have built some amazing relationships with these women.
Erica , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I developed my business/brand at the end of 2017/ beginning of 2018 because I was tired of working for someone else making such small commissions and constantly being micro managed that I decided I was best to start my own journey and its been the best decision I have ever made. It takes a lot of sacrifice / blood / sweat and tears to run a business but it is so worth it, I have the flexibility I want/need and I genuinely love making others feel beautiful. What I am most proud about in my business is that I have done this all by myself from scratch, I haven’t had a single handout. Im very proud of that
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been between word of mouth, and instagram. I get a lot of clients by referral, I have a referral program for my current clients with some great incentives for them to take about me to their friends and family! As far as instagram goes, I feel like I have a great social media presence and I post consistently which brings in a lot of new faces all ages and demographics
How did you build your audience on social media?
My biggest piece of advice for building your social media presence would be consistency. Post every single day, hard post, story post, make engaging story posts, also engage with your followers. Most importantly, have fun with it! get your creative juices flowing and making some fun content! it doesn’t have to be a chore!
