We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Erica Cobb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Erica below.
Erica, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
Comeback.TV Presents was birthed organically through necessity. In June of 2016 I resigned from my job as a morning radio host, a career I had built for 16 years. It was a response to the ever changing landscape of the terrestrial radio space. I decided that I would focus on building my brand as a content creator, under “Comeback: with Erica Cobb,” producing everything myself.
Exactly a year later, I booked a job as a host on the national daytime talk show, “Daily Blast Live,” while I LOVED this position I, again, felt the same gut feeling that broadcast media was yet another ever changing landscape and felt compelled to continue to create content outside of broadcast media. So I leveraged my position as a national talkshow host to access bigger name interviews, red carpet coverage and live audience shows under the “Comeback: with Erica Cobb” brand. This leverage created a need for production professionals. This growth started off with a dependable editor, then came the need for a field team, producers and over the years it developed into a full service production team.
After a 7 year run on “Daily Blast Live,” I made the decision to pivot to B2B, focusing on taking our team to service corporate pain points in the digital media space. I was accepted into the Goldman Sachs “One Million Black Women: Black in Business” Program and graduated as a “star scholar.” This opportunity afforded me foundational growth to take the organization, extricated as “ComebackTV Presents LLC,” and go from founder to CEO with the strength and knowledge of corporate structure and scaling.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a 25 year veteran National TV and Radio Host, who leveraged my media platforms in the content creator and production space. I sat on the Board of META’s Black Creator Program, “We the Culture” and was a member of the LinkedIn Creator Program. I was honored with a NAACP Image Award Nomination in 2023 and will graduate as a “Star Scholar’ from the Fall 2024 Cohort of the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business program with curriculum partner NYU in December of 2024.
My company, Comeback.TV Presents is entering an exciting new phase of growth, expanding from its roots in live audience events for content creators to scaling its services for corporate clients. Modernizing internal company communications, such as annual general meetings, and transforming the way businesses tell their stories to digital audiences, employees, and stakeholders.
Comeback.TV Presents elevates corporate communication through engaging live events and digital storytelling. Evolving the internal and external communication strategies to better reflect the fast-paced, digital landscape of today’s world. This involves shifting from traditional long-form presentations to modern, concise content that engages audiences in real-time, leveraging the same impact-driven approach we’ve successfully used with content creators.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
“Comeback” is the way I live my life and pursue my professional endeavors. When it comes to my production company, Comeback.TV Presents,” it’s a comeback to messaging and the setbacks of many companies who have found themselves in digital deserts.
But in my personal life, my brand was realized after a divorce, bankruptcy and unemployment that landed me in the most devastating rockbottom of my life. As I rebuilt a stronger foundation for my life, I vowed to never put myself in a position of depending on others to sustain my growth and development, specifically when it came to my livelihood. The motto of “stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready,” became my battle cry.
In September of 2024, when our national daytime talk show sunset after 7 years, I was not only ready to make the pivot into my next chapter, I had earned the trust and camaraderie of a highly skilled team that shared the vision and the drive to move collectively into this next chapter, so much so, that the foundational clients soon followed.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The saying, “if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life,” is 100% true. Comeback.TV Presents was originally created to satisfy the needs of my content creation aspirations. My personal brand “Comeback: with Erica Cobb” tells the stories of primarily minority voices and their greatest comeback stories and advice. We, as a team, have enjoyed many notable accolades and honors.
My Comeback stories do not end at the B2B pivot. My personal brand is now a client of Comeback.TV Presents. Extricating the production company from my personal brand and LLC was critical to the structure and success of Comeback.TV Presents. My personal brand built the vehicle, but the vehicle of the production company will now drive the important voice and platform that created it.
