We were lucky to catch up with Eric Wohlwend recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
The government school system trains people to repeat the same tasks. It is great for producing factory workers. Memorizing things, that may never happen again, is not good for a business owner or entrepreneur. We train our children to be leaders and business owners. We have homeschooled them since they were born. We created our own classes & curriculum. These included business, investing and even shooting. We taught them how to learn. Many of the lessons we taught are in our most recent best-selling book “Family Success Triangle.” The results are very well rounded children who have written 3 books, started college at 12 and will graduate high school at 16. Both have purchased dozens of rental properties without any of our money and the oldest became a millionaire at 15.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After graduating college with a degree in Pre-Med I went in search of myself. I had spent 4 years active army and was still in the reserve. After teaching anatomy & Physiology for a year I was re-activated after 9-11. While there I spent all of my time reading & learning about business and investing. In 2003 I decided to never get another job. My wife & I started buying and rehabbing houses. Then we did apartments, mobile home parks, stores, storage units and even part of an airport. By the time I was 30 I was financially free. A couple years later my 1st son was born. We were not happy with what they taught in school. It didn’t seem to help us much. So we homeschooled. We taught advanced business principles at the 4th grade level. Deven purchased his 1st investment at 5. Two years later he bought a house. Now, at 16, he owns almost 50 units. We teach how anyone can learn to become financially free in just a few years no matter where they are starting. We can show you, that if you break it down to the basics, even a teenager can run a business and buy real estate.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After losing 3 jobs in 2 years I decided to never work again. That pushed me to buy enough cash-flowing real estate to become financially free when I was only 30.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Working hard & saving money is NOT the way to wealth! Thinking outside the box & using debt will get you much farther in life. Saving money in an inflationary world is just bad math.
