Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Ever since I was in high school and college I’ve loved the art of creating whether that be through my fashion expression, dancing and photography. Learning about content creation through actual practice allowed me to develop my skillset in lighting, concept designing and videography. Through these three skills, I’ve been able to really love the process of creating various amounts of videos including makeup, societal hot topics and gardening. I feel as though I could have invested in photography and videography equipment earlier than I did in order for me to become familiar with different gadgets. Being honest with myself and patient while learning everything I could were essential in getting me to where I am now. Everyday life and battling my inner thoughts of doubt and fear have been obstacles to moving forward. Not saying that it has stopped, but those doubtful thoughts do come up. “Maybe this isn’t for me”, “I’ll never get to where I want to be”…these thoughts of fear continue to plague me but I will never give up and I will continue fighting for my dreams and goals to become a reality.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Eric Williams. I am a content creator, content strategist and education specialist. I first developed my business, L.A.W.D., in 2017 which was a handmade jewelry company. For like three years, I participated in many different small business vendor opportunities which provided access to many customers. After a while, customers weren’t around and at that point I had to come to the realization that being an owner of a jewelry company wasn’t what I wanted, but I was doing what others were doing just to have a “successful” business. So I shifted. After ending what I thought was going to be my future, I started creating content for myself and for a non-profit that I worked for. So many different ideas came to mind and I brought them to reality and I really enjoyed it whether it was YouTube videos, podcast episodes and/or graphics/photographs. I have come to actually understand that content creation is a passion of mine, being able to take my ideas or someone else’s and bring it to life. This has led me to redefine my initial business and turn it into a media company. I’m proud of the simple fact that I was able to be honest with myself and know that a jewelry business wasn’t what I was meant to create, but I had to go through those moments to understand what my passions were. L.A.W.D. is a media company that focuses on bringing our client’s ideas to life whether it is a podcasts, short-form videos & long-form videos, and pictures. Through the development of the content that you’re wanting to create, we will be able to show you what steps to take and how to actualize your ideas.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the simple fact that I’m able to actualize all of the ideas that I have in my head. Many people tend to lay on their ideas and ponder on bringing them to life but they never take the initiative. I enjoy going through the process of content development: thinking of an idea, collecting gear to record/photograph, writing out necessary scripts, filming content, and distributing content on social media. This entire process makes me happy and fulfills my need of creating and feeling as though the work that I put out either educates, inspires or simply makes others feel good.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve been building my social media presence ever since 2017. That’s when I really took social media seriously and actually wanted to have an organic audience that followed my journey and was invested in who I am as a person and creative. Being authentic and showing different sides of myself has allowed me to understand that people want to know who you are and no matter if the algorithm pushes it, it’s okay to show all of your sides.
