We were lucky to catch up with Eric Van Gogh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned from a past experience is to be open-minded. Everything said can be turned into a lesson one way or another. Don’t just sit inside of a box because you will never be able to grow above that. The only way you can strive for greatness is to take risks and to be free with opinions and criticism. At the end of the day, if you’re the smartest person in the room, get out and find a new room. There’s always an opportunity to learn and an opportunity to be a better you. Life is also better when you look at the world with a positive and bright light rather than seeing what you could have done better. Just be grateful for what you did and push forward from that. Just keep moving forward.

Eric, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, I’m Eric Van Gogh. I’m an aspiring actor, an entertainer, a content creator, and now officially an account manager in sports media. When you read all of that, it seems unbelievable and just a bunch of nonsense, but in reality, I’m just a dreamer who loves to live his dreams. I try to push beyond the limits and to do the “impossible”. Or what people believe to be impossible.
The reason I do that is to show the world that it can all be done. Just as long as you believe in yourself. As long as you push and want it more for yourself than anything else,
With that being said, I’ve moved cross-country twice to try to do the unexpected. In that time frame, I’ve fortunately gotten the chance to work as a background artist on TV shows, movies, and commercial sets such as 13 Reasons Why, This Is Us, Matrix 4, Venom 2, Toyota, NBA, Ford, and so much more. It’s obviously not where my main goal is, but it’s definitely a big step towards where I want to be. On top of that, I was previously a content creator under Juju Smith-Schuster’s gaming organization for 2 years before I decided to mutually part ways to pursue new passions.
And that being owning my own sports media page called The Athletes Plug, where we highlight all positive and feel-good stories on and off the field for players. What better way to spread positivity in the world than to shine light on the great hidden stories in the world. The best part of it all, with all of this experience in everything, I just recently got the biggest blessing that I can dream of, which is a full-time job to work in sports and media.
All in all, do the impossible and live your dreams. Only YOU can stop YOU from being great.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best practice to support artists and creatives is to be there. To show love to your own friends and their passions. Instead of knocking them down and being in disbelief, support them, show out for them, and share their work!
It’s so important to have your friends and family believe in your work as much as you do, because just being there can change so much. It’s free to comment, like, and share. It’s free to be happy for someone. Most importantly, it’s free to put a smile on someone’s face that you call a “friend”.
I promise, it’s more embarrassing to talk trash about someone than to promote them, so go show love and help them succeed! And if not, just don’t go begging for a handout when they make it without you.
And for whoever is reading this who has a dream, live it and surround yourself with likeminded individuals who want to see you win.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being an artist is being able to put a smile on someone’s face. Being the reason and inspiration for them to try harder and to be a better person. There’s so much nonsense going around this world, especially social media-based nonsense. I want to be the difference and help better the next generation.
I’m tired of seeing kids look up to these attention-seeking creators who do stuff that just ruins society. I want the next generation to know it’s possible to be a creator without doing all of that extra-chaotic stuff.
You can genuinely be YOU and still live beyond life.
