We recently connected with Eric Thompson Jr and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My company is Eternal Royalty Publications. I came up with the name because I wanted to highlight, publish, and promote positive images and stories from my community. Too many negative perceptions are promoted by the mass media, so Eternal Royalty is all about creating a proper narrative. The initial name I came up with was We Are Kings Eternally, which eventually evolved into Eternal Royalty. I felt it was important to have a name that represents my people from the past and even into the future.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
Well I’m an Author, Coach, Entrepreneur, Poet, Philanthropist, Public Speaker, and Storyteller! Aside from all the titles, I am a man who is living for the approval and healing of his younger self. I got into my industry because writing has always been a therapeutic outlet for me. Creating my own books and poems allowed me to heal from my past traumas and heartbreak. What sets me apart from others is that I’m focused on being the best me. One of my greatest accomplishments thus far has to be doing a Ted Talk. It wasn’t something I envisioned myself doing, but it has made me set my sights so much higher. Another major accomplishment that I’m proud of is being able to coach basketball at my alma mater. I was able to work directly with the youth and it’s something I feel destined to do in a greater capacity.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My mother passed away on my thirteenth birthday. That has been the most challenging obstacle I’ve faced in my life. My goal as a writer and speaker is to heal that thirteen-year-old boy’s broken heart. Along my journey I realized that my words help others heal as well. I found my purpose through my pain, and I want to help other people experience the same exhilaration I’m feeling.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think non-creatives have a hard time realizing that logic and playing it safe is impossible in this field. We have to take non traditional routes to get the proper results we’re seeking in life. If you are considered weird, crazy or any name that isn’t admirable, that just means you’re on the right path. It takes guts to go against the grain and forge your own identity. I want to encourage everyone reading this to color outside the lines, challenge the status quo and think outside the box.
