Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Strouse. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, appreciate you joining us today. When you’ve been a professional in an industry for long enough, you’ll experience moments when the entire field takes a U-Turn, an instance where the consensus completely flips upside down or where the “best practices” completely change. If you’ve experienced such a U-Turn over the course of your professional career, we’d love to hear about it.
Orthodontics is an amazing and exciting industry that is filled with technological advances and changes that are constantly occurring. One large change that has occurred is the push over the last 5-10 years from general dentists informing patients that they are “Invisalign Specialists” and overall the push from our general dental colleagues to keep patients in their office for specialty procedures. General dentists are licensed to practice dentistry. Some states allow them to provide specialty care, even if they do not have formal post-dental school training in the specialty services. For example, a dentist may be able to perform a root canal, but that does not mean they are an endodontist. A dentist may be able to extract a tooth, but that does not mean they are an oral surgeon. Likewise, a dentist may be able to provide braces or aligners to move teeth, but that does not mean the dentist is an orthodontist.
Orthodontists are specialists who focus on your bite and alignment of your teeth. Their job is to not only make sure that your smile looks great, but your bite feels good and functions properly, too.
When it comes to your health you don’t want to cut any corners. Straightening teeth and aligning the bite are both complex biological processes, requiring more than a quick fix. Orthodontists are experts in both and are equipped to provide a custom treatment plan that is right for you.

Eric, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Everyone wants a beautiful smile, and as an orthodontist, focusing on this is what I get to do every day! At Strouse Orthodontics, our commitment is to give you a Smile to be proud of!
Our office utilizes fully digital treatment planning, meaning all of our appliances(braces, clear aligners) are fully custom to the patient, their bite, facial esthetics and skeletal pattern. A comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan is performed and I am able to plan how I want the smile to look at the completion of treatment. Whether the patient wants braces or Invisalign, the appliances that we use are fully custom the their teeth, even braces!
My favorite types of cases to treat are complex cases where a patient was told they are not a candidate for Invisalign and I am able to provide them with the smile they have been dreaming in a way that fits with their lifestyle!
Customer service is something that I value very highly at our office. Everyone on our team is friendly and welcoming. Our goal is the provide the highest quality care in an environment that is comfortable and welcoming. We want to eliminate the thought that the orthodontic office is a scary place!
One fear that many patients, child or adults, have is that orthodontic treatment is painful. Our office utilizes the Dental Pain Eraser, an amazing device that our patients receive the award-winning, FDA-cleared, electronic dental anesthesia solution that prevents and relieves discomfort from all orthodontic procedures without the need for needles, numbing gels or drugs.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes, orthodontics is a wonderful specialty where I am able to help people improve their smile and their confidence on a daily basis!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I work hard to be honest and transparent with my patients and their families. I value providing all of the information necessary and sharing my expertise to allow people to make informed decisions and be involved in their treatment. I find this helps be deliver the best results.
Patients are also quick to see that we keep up with what is current in the industry and that I am very involved in continuing education in Orthodontics, frequently spending my weekends traveling to learn from the best in the world so I can provide my patients with the best possible care. I am also aware of how busy families are and work hard to use the latest innovations to avoid unnecessary appointments and provide the highest level of care in a way that fits with their busy lifestyle.
