Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Six. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Eric thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Well, I have been misunderstood and mischaracterized for my artistic personality since childhood. You have to understand, I grew up in a small midwestern town. Sports was the main hub, socially, within my public schooling. Heck most of the funding from the school went toward sporting events, so if you didn’t play sports you were not part of the “popular crowd”. You can only imagine their reaction to a “dramatic theater kid” who wanted to pursue a career in film. It was not pleasant, but they didn’t understand what I was doing and they didn’t relate to my personality. I sort of went against the grain of my midwestern society and I got some backlash at first, but they soon came around and embraced what I was trying to do. My senior year of high school, seemed to be the turning point where they said, “huh, he actually is pretty cool. We might see him on our TV’s one day, so let’s start getting to know him better”. Honestly, it was really cool how it all panned out and maybe I taught them something new. You never know haha.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, I am a film actor and I started acting, professionally, back in 2016. I first obtained roles within student films and independent films within the midwest through my Ohio agency (Heyman Talent). Through this experience I then expanded my representation nationwide. I am now signed with Heyman Talent (Ohio), The Talent Group (Ohio ), The Rock Talent Agency (Chicago, NewYork, Los Angeles, Atlanta), and Global Entertainment (Los Angeles Management Representatives). These expansions have allowed me to be able to dive into SAG feature films and television shows. It’s crazy to see the growth and the many opportunities you receive once your team starts to grow. This just proves you can achieve anything if you just put your mind to it and work hard. It’s been an amazing journey and I can’t wait to see what else the future holds.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an actor is being able to dive into another person’s psyche and experience what they go through. I love being able to place my foot into another person’s shoes and just “feel”. I do think this has allowed me to be an understanding person within my personal life because you never truly know what another person is going through. People have so many layers to them and sometimes those layers are never shown to another person. Me being an actor, I’m given permission to dive into those “forbidden layers” and I get to play within them. It’s so cool to see what is in those layers and why those layers cause people to react and live the way that a certain character does.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do to support an artist is don’t judge them in a negative manner based upon societal normalities. I know sometimes our choices seem scary or unorthodox, but that’s just who we are as people. We love the unknown and our artistic passion is what fuels us as people. So if you see an artist that is making choices that are against “society norms” just smile and try to support them within their journey. It truly is a hard road and your artistic friend, relative, neighbor, or child really needs your support. I have been extremely lucky to have a family that supports my every move within this industry. I couldn’t have made it this far without them.
