We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eric “Remrod” Mayes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eric below.
Eric “Remrod”, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’ve all been there before where things are tight financially and we start asking ourselves in the small/simple joys like a cup of coffee is worth it. Have you had an experience like this and if so how did you think about this sort of spending?
My whole take is to never cut back on spending, find more ways to make more money, give better deals to draw more customers. I never put the thought in my head that I need to stop spending money or I don’t have enough money to get the things I want or need, I always force myself to get more creative, do more networking, reach out to more potential clients. It’s always ups and downs in any business but your mindset has to stay positive with knowing that tough times are temporary.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always been a creator, since High School I’ve been into arts, rather it’s music or photography. I always stood out amongst my peers as the creative genius. I picked up my first camera my senior year in high school. Something that started as a hobby turned into a career based strictly off of word of mouth. I got started in the St. Louis nightlife scene, which lead to the growth of my network. They say your network is your net worth. That phrase is a 100% true. All my life I always wanted to make a name for myself in the entertainment industry. I always went hard at everything I’ve done and always wanted people to know that I would out hustle them and out work them. My attention to detail has landed me in magazines, to newspapers, awards and overseas. I started my business in 2009 and since then it’s only grew. I’ve worked with fortune 500 companies to multi platinum recording artist and major brands. I also love working with the people. My city, I love collaborating with other creatives in my field. I love highlighting my city and showing how unique it is. I offer a wide array of services in the photography and film world. My specialty is Portrait photography and film work, rather its commercials, documentary’s or music videos. What seperates me from others is my passion, my work tells a story and it’s very detailed and personal. I’m also a people person. I tend to connect with my cliental on a higher level than most. I’m here to help more than just provide a service. I’m proud of me not stopping, chasing what I wanted in life. Pursuing my dreams full time and working for myself. I’m proud of writing my goals down and crushing them and bringing my vision boards to real life. I do everything I say will. I push myself like crazy. I stay positive and motivated at all cost. Spreading my story motivates others around me. I love sharing my journey and knowing that I started from nothing and made a name for myself by working hard and staying dedicated to what I love most.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
with me being in the crypto space since 2013, I love NFT’s, i feel they are innovative and a new way to break artist of all kind. There is nothing better than royalties on your work/passive income on something you’ve created and willing to share with the world. Some people may say they are worthless but we put value on everything in life. So we have to continue to support art of value and creative art that is of value to one another. The blockchain technology is one of the best things ever created. NFT’s will be here to stay even though markets fluctuate.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Word of mouth, being into with the people, taking everything in front of me. Taking some free gigs that really had more value in relationships. Saying yes when others said no. Putting out quality work on a consistent basis. Treating everyone equally I did business with. Working with people in the industry already that help co sign me. People will gravitate to things that look important or popular. Staying in the mix and around all the important people. Finding your way in the door by working my skills and always having something to prove.
