We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eric Morgan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eric below.
Eric, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I remember as a teenager watching ATL, and the one line that stuck out to me was, “It’s not always what you know, but who you know.” That always stuck with me. Iin an age where interpersonal interaction has been replaced with social media and technology , the art of meeting, learning, and cultivating people and relationships is all the more important. In the automotive world, especially in dealing with exotic and luxury vehicles , you come into contact with a wide range of people and personalities. Whether these be business owners, entertainers, athletes, or business professionals, the nature of the service is to allow them to feel they are being put first. Often these people are in charge of many groups and may tasks, and I take their prized possessions and make them my priority.
As you meet these people and word of your work travels, so does your reach and network. It’s those interpersonal skills and relationships that grows the business more than anything.
Eric, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Eric Morgan and my business specializes in automotive and aeronautical reconditioning . We offer paint correction and ceramic coating services for not only cars and trucks, but have expanded into private aircraft. We also provide window tinting, Paint Protection Film, Window Tinting , and more. Based in the metro Atlanta area we cater to the true enthusiasts of automotive and aeronautical travel.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It’s funny, because I got into detailing while I was attending Morehouse College. I needed the money and I was already familiar with cars and detailing so I would do that for professors, mentors, classmates, etc. it was a side hustle for years until I started actually learning the craft and different ways to get better. After getting hired by the likes of Lexus, Carmax, and Tesla, I had learned so much about the skill set and business, that I decided to make it a full time entrepreneurial career. And 8 years later, I have been continually self employed and have been blessed to put others in position to be successful as well.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
When you have a team , it’s most important to understand, as simple as this sounds, that they are people. Yes, they are people. Everybody has a different work ethic, strengths , and weaknesses. They have their good days, their bad days. You have to learn your people for who they are and what they bring to the table, and establish a sense of community amongst the group. When your team knows how to supplement one another, only then will you be successful.
