We recently connected with Eric Lucas and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Eric thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
If i could go back in time i wish I would’ve started my business sooner. My passion for photography started in college. I had just transferred from Alabama A&M University back home to Birmingham to attend Lawson state community College. I bought a Nikon Coolpix point and shoot camera and you couldn’t tell me nothing lol. I thought i was an instant professional, this was back in 2005 or 2006 and cellphone camera quality wasn’t what it is today so Im at every family function taking pictures of friends and family. Fast forward to 2018 i was approached by my brother to start a photography company, since he knew i was once into photography. Once we agreed on a name and got a plan together we jumped in head first. I then realized how much i missed photography. This time I decided to do more research and start off with more professional gear, and from there i expanded from just friend and family to friends of friends and over time the better the quality became the more people started reaching out. I wish i would’ve started investing more the first time around, but when i really think about it as a college kid i really didn’t have much money to invest as opposed to now. So as much as I wish I could have started earlier i think the best timing is when i did start.

Eric, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a 37 years old creative born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Im the oldest of 2 kids. I’ve alway had a thirst for knowledge and creativity, so when the opportunity came to start a business where i could express that creativity i was all in. The one thing I’ve learned durning this process of operating a business is that you never stop learning and applying what you learned, and that you need a good sense of the business side of your Company in order to substain your business and grow.
As of now E2 Media Group is a Photography/Videography company that provides portraits, headshots, wedding photo/video, photo booth services, and corporate videography. I am slowly transitioning to a video production company, focusing more towards commercial work for other brands and businesses. I am also looking to hire within the next year to help maintain the other aspects of the company.
Within these last 3 years i am most proud of the progress that the business has made. The connections and businesses I’ve been able to work with and for shows me that I am headed in the right direction.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Youtube or Youtube University as I like to call it. You can learn any and everything you want on Youtube. But outside of that, Networking, and being humble enough to receive insight or criticism from those connections.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal is to provide a long lasting opportunity for my kids and the people around me.
