Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Kros. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Eric, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned the craft just by listening to different genres of music. Taking certain sounds and flows that caught my ear and applying them to how I go about writing my songs today. Also tweaking it a little so I don’t sound exactly like the artists I look up to. And knowing what I know now, I’m not sure if I would speed up the process, Everything I’ve learned came from trial and error. After all my life experiences, I’ve developed many traits that play a huge role in where I am and who I am as an artist.
The skills that are most essential to me are writing, creative skills and discipline. Without them I wouldn’t even be able to call myself an artist. Writing is obviously important. Creativity that goes into what you write goes hand in hand. And discipline is certainly what brings out the best of my creative nature. It brings patience and reminds me to not rush the writing process. I gotta make sure to invest my time wisely when it comes to the craft.
With that comes the obstacles and the time take to learn something I wasn’t familiar with. I wouldn’t say I let it stand in my way, I just needed to find a way for it to be beneficial.
Eric, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who haven’t read about me, I’m Eric aka Krosbreed, aka KB. I got into Rap because I love music. I grew up around many genres, but I was drawn to hiphop from the start. As I grew older, the more I understood that these artists spoke from experience. Thats when I knew I could do it like them. I wasn’t good at expressing myself in general but to put words and emotions through music, I was able to express myself in a way everyone could understand. Music is a universal language and can help those who have a hard time being understood. Plus, if it sounds good, you feel good and you just naturally want to move with to what to you hear.
What sets me apart from others is difficult for me to describe so I just leave it to my fans to decide what sets me apart. With the music I’ve released, I’m sure they can find something!
To my fans and followers, present and future, I’m proud that I get to create music that’s relatable. Life can be a struggle and great at the same time and I’m grateful to be able to provide a sound that brings you up when you’re down and keep you motivated when you need an extra push.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the lives that I’ve touched. Anyone can listen and vibe to my music but when it comes to hard times, I feel like that’s where I connect the most. Comments I receive from anything I’ve posted is a good feeling but getting actual messages from people who have followed my journey or really connected with a song is an even better feeling. Knowing I’m able to inspire and give back to them is a feeling I cant describe.
I started from nothing and growing into the person and artist I’ve become today, I feel like anyone can truly find themselves from if they just believe.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Generally speaking, we all hope to change our lives for the better, right? If you were to go and start a business or chase your dreams, you wouldn’t make any progress without the support of your loved ones and those in the community. If there’s an event or anything of that nature, the least anyone can do is show up! Find yourself engaged in a new environment. It means the world to us artists and creatives just to see new and familiar faces having a good time. And who knows what opportunities it holds for you or the artists themselves. It’s all around beneficial.
