We were lucky to catch up with Eric Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
When I finally turned photography from hobby to profession, the first thing i knew i needed to do was go out and practice as much as i could. My brother and I set out to take pictures. In buffalo ny, i could see hundreds of people in mere hours. One right turn and we found ourselves in the midst of a prom send off. I decided i would, as a gift, take pictures for the young lady attending prom that evening. We spent a few hours capturing her and her friends joy as they were headed for an epic night. We left them an hour later with a business card and a thank you. That led to my first booked photo session. That in turn became my first family photos and later wedding. Looking back now, it was an awesome thought just to be someone to help make someone’s day special, but they turned out to be the special help I needed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hey there, I’m Eric Johnson of MajorMovesPhotography. I started my photography journey about 7 years ago in my hometown of Buffalo, Ny when I bought my first camera and asked a local photographer to show me the ropes. I picked up a camera with the hopes of learning how to create videos and pictures that would tell a story. I spent a year under a photographer hauling lights and equipment; frequently joking with people about being an errand boy. When i decided to take my craft growth in the trust of my own lens, i found myself doing favors and taking pictures of family and close friends. I spent hours working and learning more about photography, eventually quitting my full time job in hopes of making photography my main source of income. When i moved to Dallas I pursued more wedding and events as my focus. Although I continued providing the portraiture sessions; the event photography allowed the story telling i desired. Excitingly i was able to start my videography in early 2020, due to a lot of extra time on my hands. Learning more about both services I provide through online tutorials, informative books and continued practice. The prices I provide are very budget friendly while still provided editorial style editing of good quality. Most importantly, I provide personalized services. Fully understanding your needs when completing your session. Priding myself on bringing a vision to life. For those reading my profile for the first time, I’m an individual that wants to create a relationship. Loves seeing the growth in others. Seeing their smiles and making their day. It’s more than a session. It’s about creating, capturing, and celebrating each moment with you.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth. I think there are tons of amazing creatives but those that have found me are mainly from the help of satisfied clients.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I had a obsession for a long time with Elle magazine. Joking with my now wife on how complete my life with be, knowing i would be published for their magazine.
