We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Eric Eremita Jr. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Eric below.
Eric, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The moment I knew I wanted to pursue a creative and artistic professional career traces back to fifth grade. When I was younger, I was always fascinated with cartoons—I liked watching them, drawing them, and losing myself in the universes they existed in. The more I matured, the more I realized that if I could turn this hobby into a profession, it would never feel like work.
One of my biggest role models is Walt Disney. Seeing how he took Mickey Mouse and created an entire legacy out of it taught me the power of imagination and storytelling. His life showed that creativity could change entire industries and bring people joy all over the globe.
Having a supportive family is also a big influence on my life. Their encouragement has given me the strength to pursue this dream, knowing that I have the freedom to inspire and create for people with what I do.
Eric, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Full Sail University student, graduating in May 2025, with a bachelors degree in animation; leaning into cinematics for film, television, and video games. I have been committed to honing my skills since becoming part of the animation world in September 2023, with most of it done on Maya to design characters and scenes.
What sets me apart is my strong work ethic—I believe hard work and determination can accelerate progress more than time alone. I also pride myself on being adaptable, never anxious to meet the next challenge and pushing myself to be the best.
Looking back, I’m most proud of how much I’ve progressed in the past two years. My skills have increased significantly, getting close to the quality of industry standards. With advice and real-world practice, I think that I can further refine my skills to get my foot in the door landing me a dream job.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Just seeing others enjoying something that I created makes it all worthwhile. Seeing the smiles on people’s faces for something I have made, is what makes me realize why I bread this path after all. It’s pretty special to put all that time and effort into something and see it come together; it’s the thrill of remembering how powerful storytelling through animation is.
For me, one of the highlights is watching a character that I animated come to life, moving across the screen as if it were some real living being. It’s almost an unreal experience to really see something take an actual shape, feeling and expressing emotions, which were, up until then, only hovering around in my own head. And, more or less, it is an equally important experience in learning. From the new techniques and workflows I pick up along the way to getting a whole different perspective on animation, I have learned so much from the people around me. The grinding work within make me grow, and I love how every project is a learning opportunity.
To finish an animation means not only that I have completed another task but that I am now able to channel all the emotions and challenges, and breakthroughs that I went through to make that project emerge. Each of my projects tells its own story not only in what one sees on screen but in the journey that got us there. That’s what gets me so excited about animation–it is both an art form and an expression, and I’m always looking forward to see how my work can resonate with others.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’ve always wanted to be an animator, but what drives me most is that I know my family believed in me enough to let me take a course not fully understanding what it was. Their trust means the world to me, and while my career is, of course, something I’m building for myself, I also want to be able to make them proud.
My biggest hope is for them to one day sit down and watch a movie I’ve made and see firsthand what I’ve accomplished. It’s more than saying words, I want to show them in action that this dream isn’t something I’m talking about but something that is real, and I’m making it happen. I know I’m not there yet, but one day I will be.
