Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Eric Beutel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Eric thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
For most of us in the band Pipin’ Hot has been one of the most meaningful endeavors of our adult lives. Musically we have pushed ourselves and grown as players and had incredible experiences. However what’s really special is the community and family we’ve built amongst the band and our fans. We are mostly transplants so finding a new home in a new place is often challenging, the fact that we have been able to find that through our shared passions and hard work almost feels too good to be true!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Pipin’ Hot is a housey funk rock band. We throw a party and have a wonderful community that likes to come out and dance til they sweat. That’s really it, if you like epic rock solos interspersed with pumping funk dance beats come check us out!!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In the past several years I think many people have had to shift, and our group is no exception. We’ve had career changes, losses, mental shifts good and bad for everyone in the band. I think the largest pivot we’ve made is focusing more on the fun, experiencal side of our journey together. It’s tempting to take the right shows or right opportunities or most profitable ventures. You want to grow you want to see progress we’re all wired that way. Our shift now is just taking what’s going to be the most fun or unforgettable experience for us as a family. This does mean losing money of travel, taking funky gigs in weird places, sometimes making bad decisions. This also means playing our best always, it means squeezing the joy and thrill out of each show, it means connecting more and more and having life long experiences with a group of people who love each other. Overall we’ve switched from focusing on the result to enjoying the journey and that switch in mindset has been incredibly rewarding.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In our view all you can do is be aware for your tastes and proactive about supporting the things you love. It is my personal opinion that putting more of your energy into fewer things you’re more passionate about is what truly helps grow a scene. We all try to be supportive of all creative endeavors in the band and lift the music scene as a whole. However I believe that people would rather be in a smaller more passionate, more excited room of people than a large room of people half there. So be a super fan!! You don’t have to support every artist, people have different tastes, but you should fervently support those artists with whom you deeply connect. I think that is what makes our community around the band so strong, that support and connection is what I want for any creative sharing their work.
