We were lucky to catch up with Eric recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a business owner can really be hectic, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. There’s ups and downs being a business owner. Having to make sure everything is going the right way, solving all the problems, dealing with clients and wanting the best for all your barbers. You really have all the pressure on your shoulders, but I love it. Knowing you can change people lives, put them in position to be at their best and earn the most money is really an accomplishment for me. I love to inspire and influence people, so I try my best to do just that.
Eric , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Fadebox was established in December of 2019, and since then we have be able to expand to have two locations. One on Anderson Lane and the other one at the Triangle off North Lamar. Getting to this moment has been a crazy ride. Opening up our first shop right before the covid shut down and then having to be shut down for the first 3 months was a rough start. Thankfully we have wonderful barbers that believed in us and in our vision to stick by our side and helped us built our brand as what it is today. Fadebox is more than a barbershop. It’s a brand. We like to focus on building the name through social media, merchandise and through influencers throughout the city. There’s plenty of shops around Austin, so we try and best to figure out ways to stand out. We offer Haircuts, shaves, hair color, facials, waxing, and full service options. As for merchandise, we’ve done shirts, hoodies, hats, beanies, lighters, shaker cups, tote bags, and shorts are on the way for this summer!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Shoes. How we got the money to start our first shop was shoes. We sold most of our shoe collections to come out with capital to start our shop. Probably close to 80-100 pairs of shoes were sold.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The strategy we used to gain a following on Instagram is professional photography. Hiring our photographer is probably our best idea yet. Getting clear photos with great angles really sets our Instagram profile from others. It helps give a professional look and keeps everything really uniform.
