Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erianna Gowdy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Erianna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Throughout my journey, my ultimate aspiration is to leave behind a legacy that inspires creativity, kindness, and positive change in the lives of others. As the founder of Eg3 Designz, I’ve poured my heart and soul into my art and design business, but that’s just the beginning of my vision. See, my dream is to establish an arts studio for children, a place where young minds can flourish, and creativity can be nurtured. I envision a space where kids can explore their artistic talents, express their unique visions, and develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and self-expression through the medium of art. I want to provide them with opportunities I may not have had when I was growing up, empowering them to dream big and believe in their abilities.
My journey hasn’t been without its challenges. I’ve faced ups and downs, but they have only strengthened my resolve to make a difference. I’ve learned that faith, resilience, perseverance, and unwavering passion are key ingredients in achieving one’s dreams. I hope that my story can serve as an example to others, demonstrating that with dedication and a genuine commitment to your craft, you can overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
When I reflect on the legacy I hope to build, I envision a community enriched by the arts, where children have the opportunity and resources to discover their creativity and where my art and design business, Eg3 Designz, continues to thrive.
I hope to be remembered as a kind, energetic, caring, and loving person who genuinely cared about making the lives of others better. I aspire to leave a legacy where I’m remembered for my uniqueness, and those whose lives I’ve touched can confidently say that every day I embodied the spirit of ‘dare to be different.’ As my guiding motto suggests, I aim to let my light shine, as expressed in the bible verse Matthew 5:16. Ultimately, I hope that my legacy is one of inspiration and empowerment. I want people to say that I made a difference, that I helped others believe in themselves and their overall potential, and that I contributed to a brighter, more creative future. If I can achieve this, I will consider my journey a success, knowing that I’ve left a lasting mark on the world that goes beyond my own artistic creations.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, everyone! I’m Erianna Gowdy, the founder of Eg3 Designz, an art business that’s all about bringing creativity to life in unique and meaningful ways.
My journey into this industry was an unexpected yet transformative one. While pursuing my college basketball career, an injury abruptly halted my athletic desires. That year was undoubtedly one of the darkest times in my life, but it also led me to a profound revelation: I am more than just an athlete. This pivotal moment forced me to dive deep into my passions and identity beyond the basketball court. Out of this period of reflection and self-discovery, Eg3 Designz was born. It represents not only a business but a symbol of resilience and personal growth. Through Eg3 Designz, I offer a range of artistic services, including custom shoe designs, intricate freehand sketches, and compelling graphic designs. Each creation is a piece of my heart and soul, a testament to my love for art in all its forms.
What sets Eg3 Designz apart is the genuine passion and personal story that underpin every project. My brand is a reflection of my own journey from adversity to self-realization, and I’m immensely proud of that. I take pride in using art to inspire, uplift, and connect with others, and I’m committed to bringing creativity and innovation into the lives of my clients.
So, to potential clients, followers, and fans, I want you to know that Eg3 Designz is more than just an art business; it’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment through creativity. My story is woven into every piece of art I create, and I invite you to be a part of this artistic journey with me.”
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve had to unlearn on my journey, especially in the art business, is the pursuit of perfectionism. I used to carry the weight of believing that every piece of art had to be perfect. That every stroke of the brush or every design had to be flawless, an unattainable standard that often hindered my creativity. This relentless pursuit often left me feeling frustrated because, as I soon discovered, perfection simply doesn’t exist. Perfectionism can be paralyzing. And if not careful, you’ll find yourself in a relentless pursuit that will leave you doubting your own abilities. There has never been one specific back story attached to this lesson, but a series of moments revolving around my unyielding urge to achieve perfection in everything I created. To overcome this, I shifted my perspective towards excellence. I realized that excellent work, while not attainable every single day because that would make it average, could indeed be achieved with experience, passion, dedication, and faith. To me, art is a series of bold strokes, always striving to create the boldest one. This shift in mindset has liberated my creativity and allowed me to embrace imperfections as part of the artistic process, leading to more authentic and innovative artwork.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The creative journey can be a bit of an enigma, or mystery per say, to non-creatives. What they might struggle to grasp is the depth of passion that fuels us. Creatives often see the world differently, drawing inspiration from the mundane and transforming it into something extraordinary. This unique perspective can be pretty hard to fathom for those who don’t naturally think in terms of colors, shapes, and endless possibilities. Non-creatives might also find it perplexing that creativity doesn’t always adhere to a fixed schedule or structured process. It’s a spontaneous and ever-evolving journey, one where experimentation and occasional setbacks are part of the process. As a creative, I’ve always embraced the path less traveled. What non-creatives may find challenging to comprehend is the innate drive to think beyond the boundaries of convention. In my journey, uniqueness has been paramount; my style is distinctly my own because I’ve crafted my own lane. To achieve this, I’ve prided myself on consistently thinking outside the box to bring ideas to life in a way that not only meets but exceeds expectations, ensuring my clients’ satisfaction. Non-creatives often operate within the confines of an ‘ABC’ basis, where it’s tempting to remain stagnant with ideas that fit the norm. This divergence in thinking between creatives and non-creatives, I believe, is something that can be baffling for the latter group, as it’s rooted in the unyielding pursuit of originality and innovation. To truly understand the creative journey, one needs to appreciate the profound connection between imagination, self-expression, and the relentless pursuit of bringing something beautiful into existence.
